Nexus 5 just announced for $349 in US

http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/17/nexus-5-16gb-349-play-sto…

After the price drop of the Nexus 4 the Nexus 5 is due to come out in the next few weeks most likely for $399. I am disappointed it still doesn't have a removable battery but looks pretty sweet and will most likely upgrade.

I know a lot of people were quickly on Nexus 4 last time. What say you Ozbargain?

I have never come close to the 16gb on my current phone so not really an issue for me but i can understand it is an issue for others.

hmm… try to install street fighter IV and NBA 2014 plus FIFA 2013 :) and all those photo editing apps.. and list go on and on… trust me these days, phone need at least 32gb, or 16gb excluded o/s

and wait.. how about mp3? and 1 full season of homeland tv show? and full HD resolution of photos?

        • +6

          Exactly my point :)

        • Hold on… Street fighter IV on android?

        • +1

hmmm google, its there, i was playing it
maybe not in google store? not sure.. but why not?
same like the ios version.. but file is BIG

        • ah i see it… One of the only games I missed when I switched over to android and never found it on the playstore. Awesome!

      • +3

Wow first time ever (that I've seen) someone has said 16GB is enough AND also realised that there is a greater world out there!!!

        • Well everyone who has a Nexus 4 only have 16GB or less. Same with everyone who buys the 16GB model of phones without a micro sd slot(eg. iphone).

Obviously anyone can get buy with 16GB but if you like to play a lot of games or want your music/videos with you , you'd get the phone with extra storage.

        • +2

16gb limitation really forces me to hold back and be judicial about what I choose to put onto my phone.

        • I have an 8GB nexus 4, there's about 1GB left of space…although I don't put music or video on there or use it as any sort of media device. I use it primarily for work so that's why I don't need the room.

For simple tasks it is a lot of power for not much. I would think 16GB is the bare minimum though if you want to do anything more than basic stuff.

Looks like it was posted in Play Store as an error as it's gone again.

As with SD card, Nexus One was the only one (amongst the Nexus phones) with it but totally useless when the application partition is only 190MB. They have moved away from removable battery since Nexus 4 (like all the other high end phones except Samsung).

Still no official spec though. From what I've seen it would be a good upgrade from Galaxy Nexus but maybe not so if you are on Nexus 4. I still don't quite get the full-HD-on-5" thing. Maybe it's just my ageing blurry eyes, 720P is already good enough for me.

720p is definitely good enough, though 1080P does look bit better. 1440P display smartphones should be out next year.

    • Not official but GSM Arena is a good bet

      • 3GB ram?? I sure hope so but I doubt it!!

Thinking the price will be $399/$449 AUD.

"posted in Play Store as an error as it's gone again."

More likely than not it was a PR stunt.

      • I'd like to think Kogan's the only one to do those

    • +9

Wow really? To me it looks sleek, stylish and expensive. To me the iPhone looks cheap and the only one that I think compares was the 3gs.

    • +8

Still 2x cheaper than an iPhone 5C and looks 3x better. In any case, Apple simply took a design hint from the Nokia Lumia series and made their 5c phones with colored backs and sides. Not exactly original design…

You can however count on the Japanese to make the snazziest looking ones:
      http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/english/product/smart_phone/index…

    • I think it looks great. More ergonomic than the iphone. Though they could of put a better wallpaper and maybe some widgets in the display picture.

  • Does it have a "washed out" look like the nexus 4?

    • I've got a nexus 4 and have used to heavily every day for the last 9 months nearly and have never noticed a'washed out' look…?

Just had a quick 'google' of the problem and seems it was a software issue that I guess has been patched since I've never noticed it so I can't see the nexus 5 having the issue.

  • reckon 32gb will be an additional $50? I hope the 32gb will come with larger battery as well..

    • Hope all you want, it won't change the fact that it won't happen as never has a phone come out with a different battery capacity for differing storage options for the same model phone.

  • I guess the AUS play store price will be $450 then.

So very untrue my friend. Try rooting and getting custom Roms and your life will be never be the same ;)

  • I'm going to the US later this year… any differences getting it there as opposed to getting it here other than the adapter?

    • LTE might not work here.

      • LTE won't work here - they are different models with very different frequencies. Unfortunately.

        • But GSM version will work here? Heading over to the US later this year, might pick one up.

        • +1

Why not buy it here and claim back gst via trs. Usually the main difference in price is only sales tax.

  • Nexus 4 with LTE also rumoured to be released with the Nexus 5 (http://www.android.gs/nexus-5-price-to-be-399-because-of-nex…)

LTE-enabled model will come with either 16 or 32 GB of storage, at the same prices at its predecessor $299 and $349, respectively.

So…probably AU$350 for 16GB and AU$400 for 32GB ? Bascially back to launch prices but with LTE.

Is it worth the extra $50 for LTE compared to the new discounted N4 prices?

    • I'm sure you realise you get much more than just LTE

      • slightly better screen
      • snapdragon 800 (fastest processor available for android besides for possibly Exynos 5) - not sure about power efficiency
      • better camera
      • more ram
      • no fragile and slippery glass on the back (unless you liked that)
      • slightly bigger battery - though probably offset by the larger screen

Probably other things that I dont know about

      • +1

        I think you have misread.

I think you have just described the Nexus 5. But Im referring to the rumoured new Nexus 4 FOUR phone that will be released with LTE - all other features will be the same include screen, camera, ram, glass back etc.

        See article linked.

        • Oh you're right, my bad!

Sorry mate I didn't realise they were re-releasing the N4.

        • No worries :) All these rumours are driving my head crazy!

    • $100 extra for the Nexus 5 over the Nexus 4 LTE would be much better value, and it's likely to have LTE.

the price was "accidently" posted 2 days ago..

    www.9to5google.com

my guess is $429 for Aus

  • +4

Running Apple ecosystem at home. Going to get the N5, fed up with Apple.

  • Looks like Goole may release the white variant at the same time?

    http://phandroid.com/2013/10/18/nexus-5-retail-packaging-lea…

  • should be around $399 AUD when it is available in the Google Play store

    • You'd think with current exchange rate, $399 including gst is about right for 16gb. If they want to try and rip us off they'll set it higher.

  • Hey, according to some tips, the nexus 5 with 4.4 kitkat should be announced about -=2AM AEST=-.
