Want to buy a good vacuum - suggestions ??

I have a kogan no-suction-loss vacuum bought recently which makes myself and wife very angry and frustrated when vacuuming. It turns off every 5 minutes after 3 months of use. Properly cleaned dust container and air filter doesn't help. It's too heavy and noisy too.

I am looking for a reasonable vacuum which is not too expensive like Dyson models. I thought of this model "Shark Rotator Lift-Away Professional 3-in-1 Vacuum - Model NV502". This is $260 in US Amazon with free shipping. How can we buy this around 300 in here??

Any tips to buy this or any other suggestions please ??

If you are looking to spend upward of $300 anyway, I would suggest get a Dyson.
Yes, they are over-priced, but they are a good quality device that operates very well.
I don't know what you paid for the Kogan, but that plus the price of a Shark Rotator must be getting close to a Dyson cost.

  • Managed to score a Dyson dc32 animal pro for $430 landed from amazon.it very happy with it and only required an adaptor to work in oz. worth a look as it worked for me.

  • I've purchased many vacuum cleaners over the years but when I bought my dyson, couldn't believe how much dirt it got out of my carpet. Dyson's have come down a bit in price recently and I think it is worth the extra money.

Go Dyson, They're worth the extra money as you don't replace them as often and they do the job allot better

I bit the bullet and bought a dyson recently. Won't ever go back, if I ever have to buy another one that is.

  • What model dyson does everyone have? Has anyone tried the new DC54 animal or allergy? Apparently you never have to clean the filters so there is no maintenance

  • I have a 6year old dyson upright and a relative recently bought a shark rotator which is the new model. The shark suction is about the same but it has a big box of gimmicky accessories and doesn't feel as robust as the dyson.

Our dyson feels like it will last 10-15 years but who knows the motor might burn out tomorrow.

Also ours is a hepa filter I think this might drop the suction a bit compared to the non-hepa models; but the house smells fresh after vacuuming. I think the barrel models have 3 stages of cyclonic funnels and "might" give more suction than upright models; try out a few and see which one you like.

Basically when this one dies we will be getting another dyson though I might consider a Miele.

  • dysons are not necessarily the best :)

  • I got the shark navigator nv350 (old model) with a free steam mop from tvshop last month. Great vacuum. Works really well on carpets and good suction overall. I would recommend this if u would like a vacuum nit over $300.

    • Looks like Shark NV502 is a newer model and Amazon sells it for $260 including delivery to Australia.

Beware. You may need an additional step up transformer to conevert 110V (US) to 240V.

        • Good point. I totally forgot to check that. Thanks for reminding.

  • I used to have an upright HEPA vacuum which I was really happy with it. That was in US and the bags were dirty cheap. It's bit expensive in here to replace bags, otherwise I love to have it because it's less hassle in cleaning the dust container with bagged one.
ALDI one is cheap but the bags cost $10 for 3. With 2 kids messing the house and dropping stuff all over, we have to vac almost every other day and bags could cost a lot in long run. :(

  • I can't recommend a bagged Miele highly enough. About half the price of a dyson, as much (probably more - subjective opinion) suction as a dyson and no messy emptying of the container.

Not a comment against a Dyson, so much as an endorsement of Miele.

  • Dyson's are great. If you're looking for something cheaper but still great the Vorticity is excellent for the price when it's on sale. Just have to wait for a sale.
