I am currently with AGL but their rates are horrible and I want to switch.

I was setting up an account for my girlfriend and she had been given no discounts. I was personally on the 16% discount gas (plus 2% saving on direct debit) and 11% electricity (plus 2%) with AGL. When i tried to negotiate with them they said that it was no longer available and I could only get 10% and 8%. So i asked to be transferred to resolutions and told them that if they didnt offer it I would take my business elsewhere and so they said yes to the previous discount

Yep, absolutely check that site out. I know in Adelaide the bigger providers like AGL and Origin totally hose you compared to some others. Momentum and PowerDirect offered the best rates for me last I checked.

In NSW, it depends largely on where you live, but also whether you want electricity or gas only or combined, and whether you have solar feed-in, whether it is gross or net and when you had it installed. I was with Energy Australia (EA)and I'm in Newcastle with solar gross feed-in installed years ago, wanting gas/elect combined. When my contract ended EA wrote and offered me 5%, so I rang and told them it was an insult and they offered me 15%. A friend in the same area was offered 17% with AGL. I tried one of the online comparison sites and they rang me, and because of the solar feed-in, it was not something they could quote on. The point being that sometimes this is not something that is best done on-line. Take the time to call, because even though time is money, it can be worthwhile.
