    This was posted yesterday.

I know but I just posted it because I didnt come to know about it yesterday. If i missed it many others did too. So I tried and worked hard at 3 in the morning to create an attractive title with more info and pricing for many cameras :)

      • Good on you. Many thanks.

        • Yes thanks Jat. A lot of us have benefitted from your good work :)

  • Good prices on NEX-5R body and 650D too.

  • Great post! I bought Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF3 with both big lenses for $338.

  • dupe of http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/119072 but this post has more information

    • +3

Yes. This post has a LOT more information. Thanks heaps for posting!

with so many cameras, can anyone suggest the pick around $200?

    • +4

I already own this camera. It's fantastic in my opinion. I highly recommend it.

      http://www.harveynorman.com.au/panasonic-lumix-tz30gn-digita…

      • +1

Just about the say the same. Lumix TZ30 under $200 is unreal. Pick of the lot.

      • I've got it too and love it. IMHO the ultimate compact travel camera given the pic quality and zoom. Cheapest price was around the $150 mark during a Myer online clearance sale a few months back. Even at $200 its a great bargain and highly recommended.

      • out of stock online…

      • I bought one too its a great deal. I was looking for TZ40 since last 1 month, but $200 for tz30 is best, not much difference in photo quality.

    • I bought Canon SH260 for $350 ten months ago. Best camera ever had. 20 optical zoom and 12.1 Megapixel. now its less than $200

  • Sony A57 Body only $447, With Lens $464.. Not bad!!

  • Aww man I bought the Nex 6 kit for 1050 less than 2 months ago

  • +2

thanks I picked up the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF3
don't forget to sign up to their newsletter for another $5 off

  • Is the Olympus PEN Mini E-PM1 is a good camera?

I am waiting for the SOny Rx100 M2 prices to go down but it is taking forever plus i dont have dont have a budget for that any more?

    • +1

E-PM1 is pretty decent camera, but not top of the line in any way. Quite speedy AF and operation, decent image quality etc. But lacks a grip, could use more buttons for quick access to functions and the newer Olympus Micro Four Thirds cameras, such as E-PM2, have much better 16 megapixel sensor. Also the included kit lens is not that special. As a system though, MFT has some great lenses available, especially primes, and I think it's a good system to buy into. And for this price the E-PM1 is a good choice to start with.

      • Thank you Jekentta,

The panasonic GF3 comparing to this one? I am not good with cameras and i just want to point and shoot.

        • +1

There's a pretty good comparison there halfway the page:
          http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Olympus_E-PM1/verdict.shtm…
I'd say they pretty equal cameras, except for the image stabilizer on E-PM1. And generally Olympus' jpeg quality straight out of the camera is said to be better than Panasonic's but that also a matter of taste. The included 14mm prime lens in the GF3 twin lens kit makes it very interesting though. Ideally I'd get the prime lens from Panasonic and the body from Olympus!

  • Thanks, picked up an Olympus PEN E-PL3

    • Returned the Olympus PEN EPL3 then purchased a Panasonic GF3 with twin kit lens.

Now these are real bargains also:

    Samsung NX11 Twin Lens Kit (18-55mm & 20mm) = $263
    - 20mm 2.8 lens costs $230+ on eBay by itself.
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-nx11-digital-camera-t…

    Sony NEX-5R Twin Lens Kit = $597
    - This is minimum $200 cheaper than all HK import shops let alone anything local.
    - But this seems super low in stock. Good luck finding one…
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/sony-nex-5r-compact-system-ca…

  • So tempted to get the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF3. But if I add a prime lens on top of that, it will be another 300 bux. I guess I will wait until the rx100 to go down T_T.

Is the Samsung NX11 good camera?

    • +2

Here you go. This will make you very happy. =)
      http://www.harveynorman.com.au/panasonic-gf3-black-twin-lens…

      • This is a great bargain - you get a cheaper price ($285 v $296) and an extra 14mm lens! The other twin lens option (14-42mm+45-200mm) is also great for $338 http://www.harveynorman.com.au/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gf3-dslr-…

        • What are the difference in the lenses for those new to all this?

        • 14mm 2.5 lens is a very compact prime (non-zoom-able) lens with a faster aperture. So it's good for portability, indoor photography and overall has a better image quality center to corner than a typical zoom lens.

14-42mm lens is a standard 3x zoom lens for everyday shots.
45-200mm lens is roughly 3x to 14x (equivalent) telephoto zoom lens.

        • The 14mm f2.5 is a pretty good lens for a photographer which is under heavy budget.

Produces pretty good photos, i find it sometimes too wide which is why I sold it off and bought a Pana 20mm f1.7.

Awesome lens, crisp photos and does extremely well under low light. Does everything from scenery photos to portraits reasonably well. The lens is also super fast. I paired the Pana 20mm f1.7 with a Olympus FL36, made it a camera which I cannot put down. Low light indoors photos are extremely crisp allowing me to take photos at ISO 100 along with the fast aperture.

So I would highly suggest the 14mm f2.5 for any beginners since it is excellent value, from $150 for 14mm f2.5 to $400 for 20mm f1.7.

        • Thanks for the advice. I bought the PANA DMC-GF3 with the two larger lenses & I'd like to shoot macro. Are either of these lenses good for that or should I buy a dedicated macro lens? If so, where do you buy your lenses from? Cheers.

        • I've had the Olympus E-PM1 paired with the Pana 20mm for a year now and although I love the pocketable size, I feel that the controls, low light performance and video warping leave me wanting. The lens seems very capable so I am thinking of just getting a new body. What would be a good upgrade to improve those three areas and still keep it small?

      • If you want quality then get the twin lens kit with the 14mm Pancake ( These sell by themselves for $300-500 ).

If you want versatility get the twin Zoom lens kit

        • I just bit the bullet and went for versatility. Having buyer's remorse and now want quality! (Face palm)

        • Why is the fixed prime lens better than the zoom lens?

        • Nah you won't be able to sell the 14mm Pancake for that much.
Max you'd get is around $170 since you can get it from HK from Ebay for around $190.

Lol, for $400-500 i'd buy the Olympus 17mm f1.8 or the Panasonic 20mm f1.7, it would be stupid to buy the 14mm f2.5 which is a inferior lens.

        • Prime Lenses are better since they usually have better glass and faster since it doesn't need to variate due to the zoom.

Depending on what you do, Pros usually own every focal lengths so they can harness the faster apertures which allows the lens to get more light in.

Read up on Apertures and F Stop Numbers that will give you an idea why Prime Lenses are better than Zoom Lenses and what the F number means.

By having a faster lens, you can set the ISO lower which decreases the compensation made by the lens/software therefore less grainy pictures.

Have you ever tried to take a photo in a dark scene and you see it super grainy, it is most likely the camera set the ISO extremely high (like ISO2000) so you can actually see something instead of just seeing a black photo.

        • Agreed you can get the pancake cheaper for around the $200-250 new if you shop around, but you wont find an Olympus 17mm or the Pano 20mm for $200 new. They are another step up again. Plenty of shops though do list the 14mm for high prices eg http://www.camerastore.com.au/panasonic-lumix-g-14mm-f2-5-as…

Primes have less moving parts so generally better image optically. The Zoom lenses in the cheap range also arent that "fast" in terms of maximum F Stop. Fast lenses bring in more light so are better in low light.

  • Thanks OP, got the Samsung NX11 Twin Lens Kit

    • I also got the NX11, the 20mm Pancake alone is worth $300. Very happy.

  • Looking for one that can print the date hardcoded onto the picture?

    • Why would you want that? I don't think any modern camera does that. They all, however, store the date in the EXIF data and there are programs (such as http://www.betterjpeg.com/stamping.htm) you can use to write that on the photo itself on a PC.

      • My wife is old school and wants it!
I tried convincing her otherwise, but no luck!

        • I do understand that when all we had was paper prints and it was very easy to later forget when exactly each photo was taken. These days with digital photos each contain that information itself, I think it's not relevant at all.

  • Videopro is having their Warehouse sale tomorrow but HN seems to be cheaper. With exception of the Sony rx100 listed for $543 pick up from Brisbane.. Cheapest price I've seen locally for Aus stock..

    http://www.videopro.com.au/images/document/1310-VP-WHSale-Li…

    • If it is not RX100 II than it was for $503 a few weeks ago. Search the site and you'll see it.
      Still not a bad price.

      • -1

Not sure if $503 was local stock..

  • Which one of these would take good videos?

    • What's your budget? Do you need to take good pictures too?
There's a lot to choose from. For under $200, one of the Lumix would be decent.

  • oh yea oh yea.. thank you OP, just got a Sony nex 3 twin lens for $435! By the way, I'm willing to let my 55-210mm lens go, so if you're interested please PM me and offer a good price =)

    • a lot of ppl will be flogging off their 55-210 due to someone's comment in the other post. I think the 55-210 goes for $250 on ebay, so you could probably easily flog them off for $200, which makes your camera only cost you $235.

      • I was hoping for higher price actually lol but don't think that's going to happen!

  • which camera has wifi?

    • Sony Nex 5 and 6, I owned 6,its quite useless!

Maybe you might want to check on Samsung smart camera, most of them have wifi.

      • Nex5 and nex5n doesn't have wifi, nex5r and nex6 do have. Agree "wifi is quite useless" XD

  • Isn't wifi good for instant sharing of photos?

  • Im amused how different people pick different cameras. There is such a variety of people going for a variety of cameras.

I would have thought that only the best in class compact, best in class mini 4-3 and best in class DSLR would get considered. But that's not the case.

Maybe I just dont know anything about cameras (actually, ok, I dont)

    • Having healthy competition between brands is great for customers. If we all bought the same then life would be boring.

Over the years I've owned 3 different Panasonic Lumix cameras. They've all been great. And I've bought another one today.

  • +2

Just bought a NEX-F3 twin lens kit that I don't need.

    • Join the club :P

Still undecided about what to do - keep both lens, sell off 55-210mm lens or sell it all off and switch to the rx100 lol.

Trying to convince myself that my phone camera will do for everyday shots for social media and then the nex f3 can be my serious photography kit.

  • I have ordered the Canon IXUS 240 for $134. Is it a good enough camera or can anyone suggest a better one while sticking to the price range

  • I bought the Panasonic GF3 twin kit (14-42 and 14mm (at 11:30am). After 1 hour I got a call they have got just the last display unit left and I said that fine. But its still available on the website. How come?

    • change to delivery, only $5.95 and you have a brand new item.

      • I bought it online with delivery

        • HN did the same thing last time, over sell online and either 1) call you to cancel because of no stock or 2) send you out display stock without pre-warning.

        • I just had a call after enquiring as to where my camera I ordered a week ago was. They said they had to gather parts from various stores ( ie display stock ) that they had misplaced charger for etc. Not too fussed if ts display as long as there is no damage. Oh and this was an online order with Delivery.

          Very slack of them

  • I have to say that HN have been stepping up in terms of sale prices. Some awesome deals, although their RRPs are just that. Their "Hardly Normal" moniker may soon be a good thing!

  • Got my Olympus Pen Lite EPL3 Twin Lets Kit
Despite the HN Shipping fiasco issues, I ordered on Thursday night, arrived today
Kudos to HN Liverpool - Properly Packed (overly packed to be exact with almost a month's supply of bubble wrap)

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/g24mw2vg2oiakrx/IMG_20131014_10374…

    • "hey we ran out of cheap foam"
"who care? let's just throw a whole roll of bubble wrap in there!"

  • I received my order today in rural NSW (ordered Friday). Very disappointed with the packing it had good quality packing bubbles underneath, but the other side was completely unprotected allowing the camera box to bang around inside the larger box as if totally unprotected.

I haven't had a chance to look over the camera yet, but even if it comes through ok is it worth following this up with HN?

  • Missed the sale and looks like most items are gone.

Would have picked up a Pana GF3 kit but now the only one available is the 14-42 lens …

    /sigh

    Any recommendations?

  • Im about to return Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF3 with both big lenses for $338 to Macgregor store, if anyone is chasing stock. Replacing it with the panasonic-lumix-tz30gn, got the last one in the country! Decided I wasn't up for a tech challenge on my holiday. tz 30 looks like a great point and shoot.

    • It really isn't that hard to operate. Just stick on automatic mode and you'll be fine.

  • What about portability though? I'm taking 7kg carry on and it's probably too bulky.

  • My 2 cameras arrived yesterday.

    • mine too. but they look ex demo/refurbed. the screen got scratches! battery and power cord not in "new condition".

Harvey Norman staff took great care in packaging them though.

  • Not impressed. Camera turned up today and 2 items are missing from inside the box

    1) The Figure 8 power cable is missing
    2) The Body cap is missing
