Panasonic 60inch 3D Plasma Smart TV 60UT50 - $1092 @ Myer (Sale)

710

this is a great plasma, comparable to the ST50 from last year. Myer advertised it for $1380. But with the Myer sale, I got it for $1092 including delivery. Fantastic picture quality, and good size. It is last year's model though. The reviews on the net were outstanding, similar to ST50 in dark room, but has more reflections in bright room. It has 3D, and smart features, but does not have wireless (optional)

Remember Panasonic will end Plasma very soon.

    • +5

Err… so? Does that make this a better/worse deal?

      • +25

Even more of a reason to buy one. Plasma for the win, especially Panasonic.

    • +6

And that will make the TV go bad all of a sudden?

      • +10

Does that make this model a collectable and the value will go up?

        • +1

I give you + because its funny :)

I bought a pioneer plasma 6 years ago. A few weeks after I bought it Pioneer announced they were getting out of the plasma game. As soon as the end was announced my TV went black and white and started hurling racial abuse at friends when they would come over.I tried reasoning with it but it said "Pioneer is out of the game, get stuffed!". I rang Pioneer to talk about getting it fixed and they told because they were no longer in the plasma game that warranty was no longer valid.

    • Stupidest comment I've seen on OzBargain.

    • +2

He's just letting you know the reason for the discounts. We can expect more Panasonic plasma screens for sale coming up.

      • +2

Yes just a reminder nothing special. Also it won't make the deal bad and I didn't say that.

People need to know before they decide, just like HP stop making their Tablet so if anything wrong they will not support it.

  • +4

    Price in the title please.

  • DL, was this an in-store price? Do you think this will be at any Myer, or only the one you went to?
For reference, maybe mention which shop you went to, in case others who are after this offer have issues.

  • I went to Chatswood Myer. I asked if there was a 20 per cent off the $1380 price. I thought that was a good price already. And they just checked the computer and came back with $1092 straight away. I was trying to get it below $1000, but I managed to get it with delivery.

  • can't find this model @myer website

    • I suspect it was only in-store. I am not sure how many plasmas left. It has the sign clearance, so it sounds like they are trying to get rid of last year's model. they said that the one in Chatswood was the last one, but I saw the same TV in Myer, Macquarie.

      • Myer at Castle Hill and Macquarie don't have any. Macquarie sold their display model on Sunday or Monday. Good deal though.

  • +1

I spoke to someone from the Myer Werribee store.

He said there is none in stock in Victoria.

However you maybe lucky to get a display model.

  • +1

Myer at Warringah have a display model left, priced at $1370. There may be another weekend sale. I don't think there is any other stock in Sydney.

  • +1

Great price… And would prefer this to the Sam'Buzz'sang!!!

    • instead…you will hear fan noise

  • How power hungry is this compared to an LED of the same size?

    • +1

Probably a little bit higher. But considering the price difference between a 60" LED and a 60" plasma, do you think you will be making any $ saving from the power cost you save?

      • Good point. Thanks!

        • This is the age old debate… But people have pointed out in the past, and don't quote me on exact figures, but someone worked out one particular 64" model to be about $40 extra if you were to run it 24/7 for a year!

        • 24/365 is der riguer.

    • -1

See how marketing dumbs you down? The difference is bugger all compared to the 100+ other ways you could save power around the home, but no, this is marketed to sell inferior, washed out, unnatural looking LED panels.

  • -7

Maybe if it was plasma 4k.

    • +1

      lame… troll

Panasonic + Plasma = Last for a long time, I've had mine for 3 years, not a single issue and we've got it on most of the day.

    • +1

      +1, my PZ700 is on 10+ hours a day and hasn't skipped a beat since August '07.

      • -1

        That's a lot of TV-watching!

In case anyone's thinking of hooking up a computer to one of these, plasmas aren't very suitable for use as a computer monitor displaying static images like a desktop - LCDs would be better as they don't burn in permanently like a plasma.

        • I gotta say wow to a 60" desktop monitor - led or plasma.

        • +3

I've been using my 64" samsung plasma as HTPC and have been browsing web, playing pc games etc on it for over 2 years. No issue with burn in.

Plasma burn in is a problem for very old models that are at least 8-10 years old or if you do leave a static image on screen for a few weeks without changing or turning the TV off, then you have a problem.

Even then, modern Plasma/LCD has anti burn-in features that will dimm the screen when it detects a static screen.

And ALL display type can have burn in problems, not just plasma. CRT and LCD can have burn in too.

        • That's what I thought too. I installed three 50" Panasonic plasmas in 2010 in some classrooms. I had a look again two years later and the XP rolling hills wallpaper can now be seen when it is switched off.

        • That's what the 'screen saver' is designed for!!!

        • One of my LCD monitors at home displays the same static Outlook window every time it is switched on. It has been running for much longer than those TVs, for many more hours.

There is no burn-in problem on it.

That's why I said LCDs would be better as they don't burn in permanently like (or as easily as) a plasma. I've had temporary image persistence, but that is only temporary.

A screen saver won't help prevent the burn-in caused by the title bar of an application when you are actively using the computer.

    • My panasonic plasma developed the common vertical red line issues recently, luckily just before my extended warranty ran out. We don't use it much, and I think this time I will head down LED route to replace it. Waiting for end of year sale and hope Sony or some other companies will have christ special like prior years.

      • Yeah hoping mine will last until at least next year, or second-gen 4K (60Hz) TV's are out.

    • +1

Mine lasted 22 mths then wouldn't switch on (got 7 red blinking lights of death) google it, very common.

Classic OzBargain - a few display models left around the place - if you are lucky.

I can go looking for leftovers anytime. It's not really a bargain to hunt around for a few demo units of end-of-life products, is it? Are we really that desperate to post?

The jokes in this thread are far more interesting than goose bargain chasing.

    • I agree, this rule doesn't get enforced enough. Then you get deals like this that occupy space on the front page when only a lucky few will, or may, score one.

      • +1

Geez, first deal posted by DL.
        Cut 'em some slack.

    • +1

      Hey, sharing is caring.

  • Hope Panasonic does not terminate their plasma game as pioneer did. :):)

    • +2

er, did you miss the news?

  • Tried the Brisbane Store - No stock left

Apperantly only 1 stock left nationwide (somewhere in Adelaide) and its a display meodel…

  • Incredible deal! I'm a proud owner of the 50" ST50 - a TV that still gets remarks from everyone on the beauty of the picture (I have mine set to True Cinema pretty much all the time)

If the reviews are accurate about this UT being comparable to mine that's impressive, but I'm a bit dubious. For the price however it's incredible.

  • Pity as Not enough in stock as I was going to get 4 and place then in a 2 x 2 matrix and get a 120" for around $4k.. that would have been a bargain alright.

  • great deal…. as a proud 42" panasonic plasma owner i wonder how much electricity 60" version consumes.

    • Does ur 42 use much?

      • +1

        heaps

        • How much is heaps? (Kw per year based on how much usage? and factored in average electricity supply cost?)

  • I have the 60ST60. Fantastic TV. Highly recommended.

  • Does this set flicker or buzz?

    • Flicker? Never herd that one. Buzz? Probably. All Plasmas do to some extent but like the power efficiency issue it's not really relevant. Unless you have the audio muted and you have a full white screen being displayed you wont hear it from normal viewing distances.
I occasionally notice it when muting adds. It doesn't bother me.

  • I have the ST50 that I got at the beginning of the year for about $2K delivered and have not looked back. I wanted it for mostly watching sports/fast paced action which is why i didn't go with a LCD/LED…the only problem I have from watching too much Fox Footy is you notice the screenburn of the fot footy logo in the top right corner on a completely white screen…but other than that, I've still found a plasma can still do a good job in a room with a lot of light; its really a matter of reflections and TV placement with regards to your windows/lights. Thanks for posting, this looks to be a pretty decent deal!

    • +1

Thats because the ST50 model's filter handles the glare better than the UT. Reviews look good. Went to JB today and they didn't have any stock. They looked up their computer and said Vic only had 12 in stock. 1 per store and they suggested these would be demo units on the shelf. I wouldn't touch floor stock as they would run 10-12 hrs a day for a year or so. Usage much like buying a several year old unit from a private seller. Otherwise a great buy.

Long time Reader, 1st time comment. strictly signed up for this.
So i went into Harvey Norman Preston (VIC) today, inquired about this model, there is 11 on order and they can match the price, only thing needed is a receipt.
i showed one of the staff the post on my phone, they couldn't believe it, but they said they'd match it.
Is there some way i could grab it?

    • Yes a receipt would be great. I will try and do the same thing

  • I am not sure what is the best way to add a receipt to the post.

    • +2

Click My Account, then click on files on the second row.
Upload the photo or scanned image, which will appear in the thumbnail listing.

Right-click on the listing and copy the link, and add it to your description.

  • does harvey norman sell this? i called two none even stock this…..

    • I hope I didn't get my model numbers mixed up, (I'm almost certain I didn't) the lady said the rrp would be $1996, but after showing her my phone with this post she said she'd have to match it, the other specialty guy even had a look and tried to say the quality was as bad as the budget LG'S, and that it would be beneficial to me to spend the extra and get the ST. Though after some research I found this not the case, not seeing one on display myself, I'm trusting the reviews,

I have no idea what's his intentions were telling me this?

Harvey Norman Preston (bell st) was where I went

      • Think you got the wrong model. My local Harvey say they do not stock this and none of their store do

  • -1

I am dumb ? I cant find the deal anywhere on the Myer site ?,direct link anyone ?

    • read the thread

  • Don't buy it if you have a very bright environment because even in store they have already turn the brightness to 100%.

  • +1

AUD 1092 for a Panasonic 60' 3D Plasma Smart TV! It's not the ST50/ST60 series model, but for me that's quite good enough.I won't have any more concern if I got this price/quality ratio.

Unless you always like chasing the latest model or technology, and you're rich enough.

  • I was at Myers Sydney yesterday and compared the Panasonic 50" Plasma ST60 to the Panasonic 42" LED THL42ET60. They were next to each other with the LED higher up diagonally across from the Plasma which was at eye level when seated, so they were basically next to each other. The area was very dimly lit.

I saw that they looked almost the same to my eyes. Plasma had better colour (~20%) compared to the LED having better whites/brightness (~40% better). I had both TVs set to "cinema", motion off, colour temperature "normal". They were looping the store movie, Narnia (don't know which one).

What I'm lost about is that so many internet forums and magazines rate the ST60 as the best TV by far. But to me plasma and led looked really similar. Store movie quality was very bad and I ignored that focusing on the picture quality.

How much of a difference should there be between the best TV and the middle of the range TVs?

  • Sorry to be a pain, but is there any chance of the receipt?

  • Waiting for the 64" Samsungs to come down to $1400 again to replace the one I bought last year around this time.

    • Did you get the E550? And do you not like it that much?
I can't say that I even notice the buzz that much anymore! That, and I really don't want to take this thing off the wall and try mount another one up there again!!!

      • Yes hoping I can get another that hasn't got the buzz seems like a bit of a lottery, great tv otherwise.

    • I'm not sure if that'll happen… The current cheaper 64 Samsung panel is around the $1650 mark and already sold out at most retailers.

  • sold out, expired? cant find the item in stock anywhere (in sydney)!
