BenQ W1070 3D projector $869 plus freight (around $13) Landmark Computer

90

I've been on the lookout for one of these for a few weeks with the cheapest price in the low $900's - this is the cheapest by quite a bit. It gets excellent reviews for a low-price projector - no glasses supplied for the 3D but they can be picked up for around $30 each on ebay.

  • I have this projector (got from officeworks pricematched to $905 a while back).

Great projector, really enjoying it at home, and great price, well done.

    • Hello, what is the best suitable projector screen size?

      • According to the AVS forums, 100" is the sweet spot.

        • No, I have never read this on AVS, in fact the advice is that the screen MUST match the throw distance and the viewing distance hence the use of the provided sizing guide. BUT the advice is that you should put in the biggest size screen you can, as the viewing is spectacular. I have had my W1070 since February and don't regret one single moment. One piece of advice, don;t buy the cheap Sainsonic 3D glasses. They are rubbish.

Don't forget to try price matching (well it is best price including postage less 5%) so for this one it would be $882 - $44.10 = $837.90. Just take a copy of the Landmark page with you. Ensure it is still in stock before trying.

      • I got this a couple months ago for $872 from OW. I've found the limit to size is about 6m diagonal.

  • i got this price matched at office world too. its not bad, makes a bit of noise and you get some rainbows in high contrast scenes. but for the money its good.

  • Anyone know What sort of glasses does it need, and how much for a pair

    • 144Hz DLP glasses are what you need. You can get cheap pairs from China off Ebay for around $20 each.

Great projector by the way, had it for about 6 months. Best one for this price range for sure.

      • DON'T use the $20 ones they are very uncomfortable and they shift colour.

        • So your suggestion is? I am considering to buy some 3D glasses now.

        • Here's a thread discussing the different compatible glasses and a few mini-reviews. http://www.avsforum.com/t/1448720/benq-w1070-144hz-compatibl…

I have 6 pairs of the cheap eBay ones (Sainsonic) and haven't had a problem with them yet. They are a bit flimsy and dark, but we don't use them frequent enough to justify the more expensive ones.

  • Awesome price. Got one for $872 from OW a month ago too. I found that if center is sharp, the corners aren't and vice versa - not a problem at all for movies, but as a 1080p monitor, it's lacking. Anyone else have this or do I have a bad lens?

    • Your screen is not parallel with the projected image OR a dud lense or light path. Check the screen first, if it is a pull down it is likely to be the screen.

  • I've been thinking about the whole 3D Projector home theater setup.
At the moment I have the Pc, and Apple TV connected to a 42" normal HD TV. ( apple tv is there just to stream movies)
    A) will this unit convert normal 2D movies into 3D?
    B) will I need a HD TV tuner to watch normal tv?
Sorry for the noob questions as I'm not that tech minded
    Cheers

    • A = NO, you need a 3D source to view 3D on this projector usually a 3D bluray player is used or a PC with appropriate capacity.
B = A tuner is needed for this and most projectors.

  • Hi,
I know this is sily question but It is active or passive projector?
    And which is good?

    Thanks,

    • Active - the glasses are powered but they do not require a transmitter/receiver the signal is part of the DLink system and uses red flashes as part of the projected image. This is why the quality of the glasses is important.
