  • Can I use this for my 86?

    • As an AE86 or the new one?
New? no. too thick, and bad oil for that modern vehicle.

If you managed to afford an 86, stick with Castrol EDGE (or Mobil1 depending on your camp).

Before you trust people who say redline or royal purple, look up some wear, and copper safety tests on their formulas. in other words; dont use em.
They're popular for track use, as the oil i s only there for a day.

      • Why would one use a 20w anyway? Thought thinner was better on startup….unless you have oil burning issues

          Simple really, bigger clearances.

Though to the human eye an engine is 'together' it actually has space (this space is often just how much give certain types of steel have).

Take, for example, a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Two BIG, 600cc chambers, with fairly 'loose' piston to wall gaps.

If you put a 0w-30 in there, its going to tear the oils chemical makeup and literally squish it out of the space its meant to be in.

If you research enough, In Australia, going below a 10w-40 is often silly. 15w-40 is ideal for almost all cars. The only exception is if the engine is fairly new (say less than 5 yrs\50'000k). A good example is Nissan, whos stock fill for almost all Pulsars was 7.5w-50 (yep odd numbers, but shows how thick they run).

Its wayyy too much research to go into explaining why how and what you should run; spend some time on BobIsTheOilGuy forums and learn.
Put at least 6 months aside of pure reading if it actually interests you. Ive been reading for about 2 years and still spend a good hour or two a night comparing numbers and reading tests.

Damn engines, too interesting for their own good!

        • is it ok for 2000 1.3L little car and with 200k on the odo?

        • What model & make and we can tell you easily.

        • toyota echo

        • Go for the 10W-40 Penrite "everyday plus semi synthetic" @ $23.

  • can i use this for my Daewoo Lacetti 2003 1.8? Same as Holden Viva 2006….
Please shed some light on it.

The 15w-40 probably; not the 20w-50

  • Cool. Thanks monitha.

  • Should be okay, its SN rated so pretty modern formula. Good for pre 97 runabouts. Commodore, Falcons, Camrys, Magnas, Pajeros, landcrusier, patrol. But really would be OK for other old tech style cars into the 2000s.

Ill be buying a few and using the filters for our best car (expensive filter type) and put the oil in my 1995 petrol/LPG landcrusier.

Also the cruiser uses 8lts a change so ill get 2 of these filters for our best car and then also buy the penrite 10w40 from repco on the same catalogue for our best car.

    • Most definitely is I'd say

      • Most definitely not I'd say

        • Ahhh of course… The multiple items rule. My bad

  • Would the 20W-50 be okay for a '98 VT with 280k's?

    • +1

Yep, but probably better off with 15W-40 though.
