Home Theater - What would you do?

Hey guys, just wanting to seek some expert advice on my situation in wanting to setup a HT, so many options out there and it's all abit daunting really. I've done some research and can't really seem to narrow down anything exactly that would meet my needs, any advice is much appreciated:

looking for:
- 5.1 setup, good brand, good sound. Budget anywhere reasonable $400-$800, so whatever meets my needs. Pretty simple apart from:

  • Have a 'sunken into wall' TV setup, would want front two speakers and centre speaker to sit with TV. No great problems here, height limit about the same as a 40" TV. Satellite type speaker would be fine here. Sub can likely sit under TV, where there is another shelf

  • Would like 2 wireless rear speakers (have power point beside couch setup.) Can purchase additional adaptor if necessary. Speakers can be any type, could mount Satellite speakers or perhaps could have tallboy type freestanding

  • Don't require a Blu Ray player, however i guess it's not a deal breaker if all else matches!

  • Unsure if best to go for receiver separately and then go for speakers - most likely wireless could be a problem then. Leaning towards an all in one type package, apart from maybe the wireless transmitter if sold separately

Done some research, found for example:

Pioneer:
HTP-323 - great apart from no wireless speaker compatbility
MCS-838 - All tallboy speakers- deal breaker
HTP-072 - great apart from no wireless speaker compatbility

LG:
All systems with wireless rear speakers are tallboy

Sony:
Can see HT-SS370 has what i want (apart from it having built in Blu Ray) but seems to be discontinued and barely available if at all in Aus.

I'm sure there are heaps more out there that i haven't seen yet, any advice guys? Is there a way i can just fork out for a Pioneer Receiver, buy a wireless speaker adaptor, and get 5 reasonable quality speakers and sub separately instead?

Apologies if all this has been asked before, dug through search topic of 'speakers' for 10mins before posting and couldn't quite find the same asked before.

Thanks,

For that budget personally I wouldn't bother with 5.1 at all. Get two good L/R speakers and a reasonable amp. It will sound much better for your money.

This is doubly true when you start talking about using wireless for the rear speakers.

All depends on your priorities though.

  • The cheapest option would be a second hand set of klipsch quintets. No rear wireless - but only bigbox speakers have that.

You can see many happy customers here:

You would need an amp too but used you might get away for under $1000.
