Also new cards from AMD soon? As in announced already, might be worth seeing how they go, and they may at least bump the prices down on other cards
Yep you're spot on. Here is an article with more information: http://hothardware.com/News/AMD-Unveils-New-Family-of-GPUs-R…
I'd say the 79xx series is still a safe buy though.
doesnt answer your question but http://www.amazon.com/HIS-Boost-Clock-Graphics-H795QC3G2M/dp…
thanks for all the suggestions but im only looking between these two cards all though the 7970 twigman sent is a great price.
is there any benefit in getting a gtx770.thanks for all the suggestions but im only looking between these two cards
Any reason? They are not the best deals.
any benefit in getting a gtx770?
Not really. About the same performance, which one is faster depends on the game:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/770?vs=829
Nvidia don't really have better drivers or anything anymore. If you game in stereoscopic 3D a lot, apparently they have a few more games with stereo 3D support than AMD. Also, the Batman games have better fog effects with Nvidia…
? the 770 is $50 more than the ATI @mwave…
http://www.computeralliance.com.au/nvidia-gtx680-oc-2gb-msi-…
$378, its about >10% faster than the ATI/OC and <5% slower than the 770 at base clock ratesif you game at 1080P then the 7950 will do 1080P at >60FPS you only need to go 680/770/7970 if your going multi monitor or highdef gaming
OR
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BXVFM3K/ref=oh_details_o…
cost about $250 delivered in AUas i am single monitor 1080P the 7950 does everything i need and $209US is way to cheap to pass up, otherwise i would have gone for the GTX680 as its almost as fast as the 770
+1 ATI as new games will come optimised for this setup now the xbox1/ps4 are ATI
+1 GTX680/770 for the overall speed and physX
++1 both for adobe photoshop/murcury engine speed up (with manualy edited card support)i got a special offer so it would be the same price and im doing a multi monitor set up.
well then until the new ati R7/R9 i would go the 770

Looks like the 280x (rebadged 7970) will be very close to the 770 for potentially much less. How much less? depending on the OZ tax we will pay for them.
I too am choosing between the same cards as the OP, but I am still entertaining the idea of the 280x.
PCCG has the powercolour 280x for $369 pre-order
http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&p…Might still wait a couple of weeks to see if there are anymore price props for the 7970 or 770
I can't see any point in paying more for the 280x, they haven't changed it.
I'm most interested in the 290 (not 290x), here's to hoping it's not too dear!
Yeah I'm looking out for the 280. Currently the 7870LE, 7950, 7950 Boost and 7970 (non-Ghz) all fit between the 270X(7870) and 280X(7970 Ghz). That is a notable gap to fill.
I just find it hard in me to get excited about GPU tech that is 2 years old.
You can get a different brand 7970 from Amazon for around $345 delivered (factoring in exchange rate, postage and international transaction fee): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007B5P9SU/ref=ox_sc_act_ti…
Maybe that can make the decision easier, or you could go for a 7950 and overclock it up to 7970 speeds and save another $100 or so. There are some positive reviews on Amazon for that card above, see:
“
I bought this card and emediatly started overclocking, I was able to get 6.2 GHz memory clock stable and I was almost able to get to 1.2 GHz core clock stable! ”
Either way, good luck with it.
