Yokohama Advan AD08 245/45/17 Approx $230ea or 20% off retail

70

These are on special from Yokohama, $230ea is an advertised price from Tempe as an example.

You might be able to get them cheaper from your local tyre shop or you might have to pay a little more to get them shipped in so price may depend on your location, but they are clearing them out, assuming due to build date. Expect them to be atleast 2 years old.

They arnt going to be as good as fresh but if your not competing on them they still might be useful as practice tyres or for your road/trackday car.

These are a pretty soft/grippy/stiff tyre, this is a performance tyre and has more grip then some of the cheaper semi slick tyres. It is not a commuting or comfort tyre

Retail would be somewhere in the low $300's depending where you get them from so savings is atleast 20% off which is rare for tyres let alone performance orientated ones.

Realistically this will only suit a low percentage of users, but a deal is a deal, you might know someone, mention it on your car club or whatever.

  • Aww.. damn.. where was this deal when I did my tyres a few months ago when I had to replace my AD07's? :(

    • AD07's were AMAZING, I havent tried the new gen. Went federal and they cracked before I wore them out!

  • hopy they are not as loud as a10

  • I had ad08s on my old car. Great tyres but noisy

  • I had a set of Advans on my old car (not exactly sure of the model) and they were fantastic. Like you said plenty soft and grippy.

  • You've mentioned the price Tempe are selling them for, but who actually has these on special as Yokohama don't sell direct to the public?

    • Give your local tyre guy a call, they will then call yokohama to find out they are on special and price you accordingly. Tempe have them on special, advertised on their website

      • Next question: Are the ones that Tempe are selling covered locally for warranty by Yokohama?
In other words. Are these parallel imports like most of their stuff?

        • I dont know, call them if you are interested. I only gave them an example since they have an online price that anyone can find

Looks like your in Melb. You would be better off calling some local shops as they would do a Fitted/balanced price. You wont save by getting them from Sydney, shipping them and paying the $20 or so each tyre for fit/balance.

I have a question for you, are you actually wanting to buy these tyres or are you just trying to break my balls?

        • Not busting your balls (unless they need busting), just trying to determine how you've come about this special. It's not advertised anywhere, certainly not by Yokohama. That is, unless you're a tyre dealer and recieved a fax from a Yoki Rep or similar on thier old AD08 stock! And even then, it would only be a special to the tyre retailers and not necessarily past on to the public.

        • and not necessarily past on to the public.

but often they are passed on by shops looking to get more cashflow…. hence why it always pays to ring around your local dealers as the OP said..

        • I'm just trying to let you know that there is no advertised or known special for these tyres, especially not a specific 20% discount. How do I know? I spoke to Yokohama this morning regarding the claimed special and they have no knowledge of it. They also do not supply Tempe Tyres. Hence, their ones are in fact parallel imports that are not covered by manufacturer's warranty and/or liability!!!
So my question was/is, where does this 20% special come from?

        • +1

Why would yokohama advertise this? Spend money marketing to an audience of limited size and a specific tyre? Your trying to think too deeply into it but at the same time not deep enough

By the sounds of it, YOU work for a tyre shop.

I ran the ad07's before and wanted a price, found tempe had them a lot cheaper on the net, rang around other places, they came back with "yokohama have a special, I can do it for $xxx same day delivery from sydney".

Everything is answered in my OP. 2nd last paragraph. The tyres retail around 300 or so, works out AROUND 20%. Before you ask, why is it approx, well, most places wont have an exact retail price, some charge more, some charge less.

You can actually get it cheaper then tempe, my guy gave me a one off price but I cant post it here because he wont do it for everyone. Another random shop I rang gave $240 drive in/out and same story. So if your gonna buy off tempe, or whoever snoop has pointed out they may be imports, dont take some random guy off the nets (snoop) word for it, pick up the phone and ASK them. Australian law states that a retailer must provide some warranty even if the manufacturer wont. Im sure somoene has posted rules on here or you can google it.

Snoop, I believe this covers all of your concerns. No im not a tyre dealer/shop/whatever, if I was going to try and be sneaky and sock puppet, why would I do one size, of a specific compound that would suit less then 1% of the population or people on here? This would be marketing idiocacy! I would do a tyre that would suit 95% of people!

Seriously, all this crap trying to help someone who just wont come out and say what they are thinking. Both places I called had to get back to me, said the same thing, Dont use X size, 245/45/27 will work just as well but are on special from yokohama, delivery is same day order in the AM. I asked both about build date and they both said expect 2+ years, "they wont discount otherwise".

As for you ringing yokohama, I dont know. If your retail they might not give you this info, which is common since guys answering 1300 numbers arnt usually the guys taking orders, they are only CSR. Maybe the guy didnt know. Maybe you gave the wrong size. If Snoop works in the tyre industry maybe they dont like him/his shop because he asks a lot of stupid questions.

        • Mate, yes I work in the tyre industry, and have for 22 years now. And no I'm not a retailer, I work quite closely alongside/and for many of these importers/manufacturers.
I'm not accusing you of sock puppeting, I'm just questioning the validity of this posting as an overall bargain. Without a doubt you feel like you got a bargain on those specific tyres based on what you paid, but apparently will not share completely with the OzB community. And I do understand why, you would like to maintain the relationship you have with your supplier.

Looking back, I'm probably being a little nit-picky on the listing because of the nature in which it is written. Being that there's not an ‘actual’ 20% discount. But yes, they are moving the old stock in certain sizes out cheaper. And using Tempe is not a great example for the general public, based on the reasons I stated earlier.

As for the laws you're talking about, I previously managed an import/wholesale tyre company. But you're right, don't take my word for it, ring your nearest Tyrepower, Bob Jane, Jax, etc. and ask them about the pitfalls of using a parallel imported tyre.

On a closing note, thanks for sharing that there’s possible discounts out there to be had on these types of tyres.

        • Thanks Snoop, nice to have someone ask these questions. And Kudos to you for not getting frustrated.
