Seagate 1TB USB 3.0 2.5" drive $79 Dick Smith

210

Seen a lot of dicksmith deals tonight, but havent seen the 1TB posted anywhere. Great because no power supply needed.

The only bad thing is the cable, I have never seen anything that hideous in my life. Its like a micro USB stick and my old camera cable had conjoined twins.

Cheapest on static ice is $89 + delivery.

There were still 4-5 in Perth (Upstairs above Gloria Jeans.)

the same sale is doing the 2TB version for EXACTLY the same price
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/117856

while there is the inconvenience of needing to find a powerpoint for the 2TB version, i'd take the extra space for my money personally

    good deal mind

    • I am ashamed to admit this, but I dont actually have 1TB of data, let alone 2.

If you are always going to be around power outlets when using your computer and don't mind carrying around the power code and setting it up each time, then I agree with you, the 2TB option is much better value for money.

      • The desktop version is also a good deal bulkier than these portable drives.

    • The only reason I buy 3.5 drives is to strip them out for the micro-server. With power adaptor and bulky case, they are not portable at all. Plus, I never need to carry 2 Terabytes with me, even 1T is too much for files on the go.

Why would this is a bargain as Officeworks selling the same price from 6 months ago?

    • They haven't from what I can see.

Checked it out on Google Cache,
      http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://…

they dropped it within the last week. I suspect they have modified the price as a result of the dick smith price so they don't have to price match and beat it by 5%.

you maybe right about the change of price. I don't go there everyday to check, but from 6 months ago I visited some officeworks, same price same pile up. I was wondering why they don't put it to clearance.

        • why didn't you tell us?

  • 5200 rpm or 7200rpm drive?

    • 5200rpm.
It feels like a decent drive, I once got 90MB/s copying over a movie with USB 3.0.

  • Thanks just picked up the last one from burwood, nsw. The speed is 25-35 mbps over usb 2.0. Still to check usb 3.

  • wow 1 TB for only $79… I would get one, take the hard drive out, and upgrade the laptop.
