Had Austar and moving house Foxtel forcing me to start a new contract

Hi i'm having a problem with foxtel/austar at the moment.

I had previously lived in a rural area where only Austar was available. I moved into Sydney and had been shoved around multiple times to different foxtel/telstra sales/support etc.

In the end they're saying i cannot continue my contract which i only had 3 months left and i need to start a new contract or i will be hit with a disconnection fee. I really do not need foxtel any more and would have been happy to use it for the next 3 months and disconnect.

Can they do this and is there any options for me?

  • seems they run themselves as 2 companies:

I'm moving from an AUSTAR to a Foxtel area. Who do I need to call to arrange a new connection?
If you're moving to a Foxtel area, you'll need to call us on 132 432 to disconnect your existing AUSTAR account. We'll then transfer you to the Foxtel team to arrange a connection at your new address.

    • That's what i did but they wouldnt just transfer my account, they're saying i have to rejoin on a new contract :(

  • It seems your options really are to just pay out the 3 months remaining or pay a disconnection fee. Will they transfer it to a mobile account by any chance?

Perhaps ask if they will do that, and if not, call the telecommunications ombudsman and ask them what your options are.
