I just had a hotel fall through and my funds are tight! Can anyone recommend cheap place to stay not too far from town? Going to a concert at the Opera House on Sunday and need a place to stay Saturday and Sunday nights. Help! Groupon, scoopon and the usual suspects have been searched hoping I might get lucky with something there but alas no luck. Where should I look next?

not sure your requirements but i just booked Big Hostel family room in sydney…you can even look at the YHA…reviews on both these locations are OK….but i agree with others on Sydney being expensive for accommodation….good luck..
just did a quick search and the cheapest cbd hotel available i found was http://www.oakshotelsresorts.com/oaks-castlereagh - costs $337 for sat night then can change to cheaper room - note only 2 rooms left so book now :)
Sorry to tell you but it is the busiest weekend in Sydney since the Olympics. The naval review , one direction concerts and some football have all come on the one long weekend.
Check out airbnb.com if you are willing to share ie the host is there you can get a room pretty close for $98 per night.
