  Don't forget Qatar Airways joins the oneworld alliance on October 30, so you'll soon be able to earn frequent flyer points/miles with Qantas and other oneworld FF programs.

  (Not to mention Qantas First lounge access for Platinum/Emerald FF's flying out of MEL on Qatar, as well as Premium Terminal access in DOH! :))))

    The QF lounges close around 5:30pm or so and QR departs quite late at night.

    QR currently uses the Air NZ lounge but perhaps they'll swap to the CX lounge which is at least open in the evenings?

      Ahh, good point! I typically fly out of SYD and I totally forgot about the limited hours of the MEL QF lounges.

      Yeah, my wife flew MEL-LHR a few weeks ago on Qatar flight # and metal and the flight left at 22.15h. She had to use the NZ lounge. Of course, even if the alliance was sealed back then, I suspect she would have been forced to use the NZ lounge unless Qantas asks Qatar to fly earlier as well and leaving the international lounges open later (which is something they have been trying to prevent for a while now).

  Discount varies from 3% to 10% on airfare component.

  Most likely 3% for economy and 10% for first class…
