lol, a previous deal with 1$ extra got 13 likes, hope mine is not worse lol

Yours is just as bad. Sorry. A $19 saving at best for no local warranty, and no local out of warranty support

        • +2

A3A, I don't think this fact makes the deal neg worthy. Comment worthy, definitely(!) but not neg worthy.

I agree with your assessment, and wouldn't purchase overseas stock for a mere $19 saving too. But it is a saving and other people might feel differently about the risk. The problem is that you are giving the value of the domestic warranty a price (>$19) without acknowledging that this relies on a subjective judgment made by you (ie: to you and me it's not worth $19).

More appropriate to comment and abstain from voting. My 2c.

        • +5

I understand what you are saying (in your full comment - not just the bit I am quoting). However, I disagree with this bit about the value of a local Apple Warranty and local Apple Out of Warranty replacements.

Only a very stupid and/or insane person would not put a quite high value on these two services on a handset that costs over $700. Things can go wrong, and they often do go wrong. If your new iPhone has problems after a few days or weeks - it can be either quickly and easily fixed or replaced if you purchased it here in Australia OR if you imported it yourself (as you have done if you purchased from MobiCity) you can pay for it to be sent to New Zealand. Then you can wait for it to be fixed by an unauthorised repairer (thereby voiding any chance of an Apple Hong Kong warranty replacement or even an out of warranty replacement). Then you can wait again for it to be returned to you - OR you may wait again as the repairer determined that it was better to send it to Hong Kong for replacement by Apple HK.

And what if you drop the phone and break it completely? No out of warranty replacement for you! What if you just crack the screen? No replacement screen repair from Apple for you! You either get it done locally from an unauthorised repairer or send it to Hong Kong Apple for a paid repair.

On a $700+ phone Apple Australia support is worth at least 20% of the phone's cost to any sane person.

          EDIT
Oh, so, my neg vote stays because this is NOT A BARGAIN at this price.

          EDIT 2
Someone negged - your comment so I possed + it for you.
I do understand your points and your 'position'.

You meant the Apple Store right?

This phone is $739 buy in store or $739 delivered from Apple Australia.

This phone is $690 with coupon plus a minimum $20 delivery from MobiCity - delivery fee confirmed by a rep just a few minutes ago.

So $710 against $739 is only $29 cheaper - how much is a local warranty of up to two years plus out of warranty replacements at reduced cost worth? I would say much more than $29.
Not to mention the costs of returning a phone and being without it for an undetermined length of time.

        • delivery is $9.95 only. and, you can bring the phone to Apple store, not Mobicity ;), that's one of the good thing of buy Apple products mate

We'll, unfortunately, you are wrong. I don't know where you got that information. Perhaps from a MobiCity rep - who lied to you?

A MobiCity rep just flat out lied to me about the same thing. So I called Apple while the rep waited on LiveChat. Apple Australia confirmed that there is no international warranty nor out of warranty support for Hong Kong market iPhones. He said the phones must be returned to Hong Kong for service/replacement.

          EDIT

[John] Warranty? Who pays for return shipping to AU and/or HK? How long is the estimated wait for warranty repair/replacement? Thanks.
          [Kimberly]
All handsets come with our 12 month warranty MobiCare 12, which is included in the standard purchase price. This warranty is serviced by our New Zealand warranty partner, MultiFix Limited. You may visit www.multifix.co.nz or call 09 276 1920 for more information.
[John] Sorry, but AU iPhones now get two years warranty - so you only offer one?
          [Kimberly] Yes
[John] also do I have to call Auckland in New Zealand to see who pays return costs? Surely you would know this information?
[Kimberly] You'll pay for the postage
[John] and does phone have to be sent to you or to New Zealand in the first instance?
[John] sory for so many questions.
[Kimberly] My mistake, it will come with 12 months warranty from Apple
[Kimberly] That is already interntational warranty
[John] But Apple do not offer an international warranty for iPhones.
          [Kimberly] It does
[Kimberly] All apple product that we are selling will have international warranty from Apple
[Kimberly] As our stocks are sourced overseas
[John] Just a sec I am checking with Apple Australia.
[John] Ok just had it confirmed from Apple Australia. The phone must be returned to the country of purchase in order to obtain in Warranty or Out of Warranty service.

        • *you're

        • you're

Thanks atomic, but you don't know the number of mistakes / typos I am making today. There are many! I am using my son's iPad Mini and having lots of problems with typing.

          EDIT
By the way, I never use that abbreviation. I always use "you are".

        • +1

          that's cool. cheers

  • +3

This is pretty expensive for what it is.

    • +3

it's really up to you mate, I personally love Apple products not because I am iSheep ^_^, simply because other brands cannot deliver decent customer services. I had to wait 3 months for my galaxy returned from Samsung even it is still under warranty, meanwhile it took my partner 15' in Apple store for a refurbished swap. So, I would rather pay a bit extra for good quality + good customer services

      • +2

No the 5S is better isnt it?

        • +1

Yeah, the 5C is essentially the 5's hardware in a colourful plastic body.

        • +1

Yeah, at that price point I'd fork the extra for the 5S, or I'd grab a used 5.

        • +1

          5C = A6
          5S = A7 with 64-bit architecture

      • +1

But by not having local warranty you are missing out on all the customer service. The best part about Apple's products (which i miss since swapping away) is being able to walk into an Apple shop and get help or a replacement instantly. Having no local warranty voids that

    • +2

This is pretty expensive for what it is.

I agree! On a $740 phone I would value a local warranty AND the availability of lower cost out of warranty replacements at far more than $29.

The cost of a privately imported HK iP5c would have to be at least $150 less than the local Apple store price to make the risks worthwhile.

This might be a grey import.

    • I didnt know they sold "Australian" iOS Phones.

      • +2

        ?

    • This might be a grey import.

      MIGHT BE!?

It is an import, but not actually a grey one until after YOU the customer buy it from MobiCity.

YOU are the importer. YOU imported an iPhone from Hong Kong. Tough luck if you have problems with it and/or or if MobiCity close their Australian operations.

      • +1

Are you on steroids? Calm the fk down.

  • I read it as the iPhone $0.05c

    • +1

      Try your luck mate..

  • +11

I just finished a long 'conversation' over LiveChat with MobiCity.

Phones are in stock but in Hong Kong.

Delivery is $20 for normal delivery and $40 for Express delivery.

Only one year warranty supplied by a New Zealand company.

If Waranty Service is required iPhone must be returned (unsure if to an Australian address or to NZ) at the buyers cost.

An uncertified (illegal) adapter will be supplied with the phones.

So, minimum price is $720 for an iPhone WITHOUT our loclal two year warranty (effectively this is what we now get) WITHOUT any quick repair/replacement via walk in or mail (which is what Apple AU offer for free - even covering postage costs) and WITHOUT any out of warranty support (low cost replacement handsets), and a dodgy AC charger/adapter.

All that for a $19 saving against the Apple Australia price of $739 with free delivery?

Neg from me - this is NOT a bargain.

    • Oh But apparently this is "good quality + good customer services"

ie. you can return it to the apple store for a correct one?

    • +1

Delivery is $20 for normal delivery and $40 for Express delivery.

The page quoted $9.95 for me.

    • with genuine products of Apple, no matter where you got it, you still can bring to local Apple store for warranty purposes, I bought a US iPhone 4 before and still can be under covered by Australian Apple Store, so, no hassle at all

      • +1

        NO this is not correct.

YES they will try to assist you.

However, Apple Australia can not replace the USA market iP4 handset for you under warranty nor can they offer you a lower cost replacement as an out of warranty service.

I have been in store next to a person with a USA handset trying to get support. Also I have had USA iPhones myself. So I know about this first hand. They had to go back to the USA for in warranty and/or out of warranty support.

I do know of some owners with UK iPhones who received repair/replacements from Apple Australia - so… strange huh?

        • I have personally bought an iPhone 5 from China, and had it replaced in Australia for an Australian iPhone.

It was actually a downgrade for me as the China version of the iPhone had all the Australian LTE frequencies as well as an additional Chinese band, but since I am not going back to China I accepted the swap.

Maybe, it depends on the type of phone.

        • Depends on the happy person serving you.

        • Maybe, it depends on the type of phone.

As I said in my previous comment - I know of UK Market iPhones receiving support in AU.

However, I have never before heard of CN mainland phones getting warranty replacements in AU. I think it has more to do with what comes up on the Apple staffers screen when they input the phones IMEI/serial number(s).

        • Depends on the happy person serving you.

          This is always partly true.

However, the staffer will never go against any flag(s) that come up when inputting the phone serial/IMEI.

    • +1

      Completely agreed. Not a deal.

  • +1

Oh But apparently this is "good quality + good customer services"
ie. you can return it to the apple store for a correct one?

Yes, you can return the phone to Apple in Hong Kong. So, just how are you going to do that if you are not gong to Hong Kong or do not have a friend there? Also there is the cost and the time being without the phone.

    • nah, it's not true, you can always bring it to Australian Apple stores for warranty purposes. If you use Apple products long enough, you will know this and you will never have any hassle about warranty, not at all. I have Apple stuff from US, Singapore and AU, and I can always have them serviced in local Apple stores

      • +1

nah, it's not true, you can always bring it to Australian Apple stores for warranty purposes.

Sure, sure. I am lying to you.

I invite you to call Apple on 1300 321 456 and press 2 for iPhone support - ask the support staffer about warranty on iPhones imported from Hong Kong.

  • +1

OP "Fast Delivery" was quoted to me as costing $40 - not free.

    • fast delivered is the way how it shipped not included ;)

    • you can pay just 9.95$ too

      • +1

you can pay just 9.95$ too

You can try paying just a dollar if you wish. However, I can only go on what was quoted to me by the MobiCity rep.

[Kimberly] We will be charging the shipping cost depending on the weight of the item.
The estimate shipping for the standard would be $19.90 while for express it would cost you $39.90.

  • +1

People please don't waste your money !

    • Why did you tick the rep box?

  • +3

It is a much better idea to buy an iPhone 5 with that money, better build quality, same phone.

  • +2

    Not cheap

  • Lol nice work on a budget iPhone Apple…

My fellow ozbargainers, how about you go to Google Play Store before you purchase this so called 'bargain'. They have an actual sale on their 8GB Nexus 4 for $249 (originally $349).
Top quality specs, much much cheaper phone. An iPhone 5C does not equal 2.5 the cost of the legendary Nexus 4, if anything it should be cheaper.

When will they ever learn. If you wanna pay an extra $400 to have an 'i' then be my guest :)

  • +1

    not worth at all

  • This is effectively selling your local warranty service for $29. How could anyone class that as a bargain? You are trading away an important part of the product and expose yourself to a higher cost than that to ship the product to get repaired. Nowhere near a deal.

    • This is effectively selling your local warranty service for $29. How could anyone class that as a bargain?

For a 12 Months warranty you come out ahead (on average) if 4 in 100 iPhones fail. If they have that rate of failure Apple will be hard pressed to market the iPhone 6.

      • I see what you're getting at but it would only work out for each individual if they bought 100 phones… if you buy one and it dies you're up the creek. It's essentially gambling..which is banned on here.

        • No it is self insuring. It works out when you do this for all products you buy. Same reason that buying extended warranty is a bad idea.

  • Apples idea of cheap is beyond stupid…
