    • Elevated in comparison to which stores?

I believe its prices compare favourably to the Word which is probably its main competitor.

      • -3

You are talking about one competitor - there are hundreds out there, most of which have lower prices (in general) even with the 20% off. I won't mention store names - a simple web search ought to suffice. You may also search on eBay - brand new goods are available here too.

        • -7

Here we go again.. 16 positive votes, with only 78 clicks. If this isn't suspicious voting, I don't know what is.

        • -3

Actually make that 17 positive votes with 80 clicks..

    • +1

20% off, jebs doesn't like store, NOT BARGAIN.
People visit bargain and upvote, jebs doesn't like store, MUST BE VOTE RIGGING.

      Logic

      • +1

People vote the deals up to get Koorong on the front page, not because the deals are great.
I don't understand how, but people seem to confuse a vote for Koorong as a vote for Christianity.

        • Modokun, that makes a lot of sense. Perhaps the Satanists should join this vote to offset the bias.

        • +2

Yes, lets offset one batch of stupidity by throwing an opposite batch of stupidity at it equally as hard. great idea there Jebs.

        • +4

Or they think it's a good deal, no?

        • +2

christians like bargains, he is no fool that gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose ;)

      • -3

Said like a true scammer.. (directed to pifts)

Koorong became much more competitive after booko became popular.

For most titles you're probably only paying a few bucks more to have the book delivered withing a couple of days as opposed to waiting 2 weeks. Or you can go in-store and avoid the relatively measly $4 shipping altogether.

  • Thanks OP! Got a Christening coming up, need to get a present… timely :)

  • -3

Try Saint Vinnies for a Christening gift (if a quality used one will do). There are many Christian shops around Sydney who's prices are far better than the overpriced goods at Koorong. This 20% of sale is really a catch 22 - be careful. Not a single bargain to be found here.

Just comparing prices with booko (top 5 most popular books @ Koorong)

Koorong: Switch on your brain $11.99 + $3.99 shipping ($15.98 total)
BookDepository.com: Switch on your brain $12.52 (includes free shipping)

Koorong: Kisses From Katie $11.99 + $3.99 shipping
BookDepository.com: Kisses From Katie $14.10 (includes free shipping)

    Koorong: Jesus Calling $11.99 + $3.99 shipping
BookDepository.com: Jesus Calling $13.64 (includes free shipping)

    Koorong: I Declare $11.99 + $3.99 shipping
    Fishpond.com.au: $13.79 (includes free shipping)

Koorong: Heaven is for Real $11.99 + $3.99 shipping
    Abebooks.com: Heaven is for Real $6.03 + $5.30 shipping ($11.33 total)

I just compared the books against cheaper stores out there. Seems like Australian stores like fishpond is still cheaper.

If you can wait for a book from US (1-2weeks?) then it's cheaper elsewhere.
I can wait for books - So not a deal

    • Koorong is a fair bit more than just books however.

    • Except the 20% off is in-store and so postage is irrelevant. On that basis almost every book you have listed is cheaper at Koorong…

      • the 20% off has already been applied to the web price… There is a 3day "web only" 20% off sale. if you walk instore with this coupon (in this ozbargain post) then you also get 20% off the instore price.(see link about web sale)
        http://www.koorong.com/catalogues/conditions.htm?cpRef=6&cwR…

so for example, the first book in-store price is $11.99 after the 20% discount has been applied.
sure it's cheaper for most things if you drive into the store. BUT for $0.53 more, the first book on the list can be shipped to your door after a 1-2week wait.

  • I think this is an average deal, nothing special.

To those people who think its suspicious that it was upvoted so quickly take a look at the votes. You must be a screw loose to think that its suspicious that 9 voters in the last koorong deal voted for this within 20 minutes of it posting (from the sidebar).

And far out, you guys. Chill out.

  • Any specials on books about evolution?

      • -6

        …thanks, but I mean non-fiction.

        • I assume you have read these?
          Anything with dinosaurs in them?
          Dinosaurs are so cool!

        • +2

john lennox the author of those books is a professor of mathematics at oxford university, he debates the likes of richard dawkins and his arguments hold up well as well as being both polite and gracious
They are academic books but i suppose you could draw some dinosaurs in if you like

        • I appreciate your assistance and you appear to be be passionate about the subject but I hope you realize that the books you have listed are classified under religion and not science by government libraries.

        • +1

The reason why they are classified under religion is because the topic is about religion, in particular religion and science. The fact you seem to taboo that straight away says alot, considering many books classified under religion are written by atheists too lol. I've read all Lennox's book and find them intellectually stimulating- he completely rejects creationism and is more aimed towards all audiences. Also check out language of god by Francis Collins. Before you reject these too, I suggest you not fall into the trap that so many damn christians are also doing which is being biased as crap and making judgments before even using logic and reason…. after then you can make a rational judgment

The Greeks said it best when Epicurus in 1779 wrote:
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is impotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"

May you find your true happiness in your heaven. : )

        • +1

Sorry, Epicurus cited by David Hume in 1779.

        • for God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
The Christian God is powerful enough, willing enough, and good enough to put an end to evil, the real problem is that all of us are the cause of evil. if he puts the end to all evil he puts the end to all of us as well. instead he shares in our suffering to save us from our own evil.

Christians have been welcoming these questions for millenia, there are plenty of academic books on the subject, but you just missed out on buying them at 20-25% off ;)

c.s. lewis, athiest turned christian, and another academic at oxford and cambridge on the problem of pain
          http://www.koorong.com/search/product/problem-of-pain-the-c-…

john dickson, an aussie historian, ,uch easier read:

        • I don't see people as rooted in evil, if you do then I feel very sorry for you because you must also believe you too are evil which must be awkward for you every time you look at the mirror or see a photo of yourself. It is especially pitiful when you have kids or make judgements on the innocent.
There is an old saying that you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.
I will leave it at that and wish you good life. Peace out.

      • 3-pack? that's almost bargain worthy in itself.

        • but not… that's the point.

  • -4

Looking at the front page it seems they are just selling snake oil produced by cons. Xian or not these books are not a bargain at any price.

    LMFAO
and they have a "science" section.
