    Grabbed one.
    Thanks.

This was around $180 on the weekend at Myer. $219 - 10% for myerone members plus an additional 10% off for on line purchases. Ok price at $209 but should be easy to find cheaper. Will also be $199 at Target starting Thursday.

    • +1

This offer is including free shipping. Unless a special offer, Target will end up costing about the same after shipping is added. It's always good to compare apples to apples.

Is it ok to want one at 26 yrs of age?

    • +2

I'm … older.. than that and have quite a few. I think the new* technic system is brilliant.

*Where 'new' is not all that 'new'.

    • +3

LEGO is for all ages, people think LEGO is only for kids but it is not.
The design and technical work given to the technic series is amazing

    • +2

      Yes, provided that:
      * it isn't your mum buying it for you
      * you only buy sets for your kids where their age is more than half the starting point for the recommended age.

  • +8

Gave a positive vote simply because I want to see more Lego Technic love.

  • +1

Target will be cheaper with 20% off…

  • I will certainly be picking one of these up, but probably from Target.
Was is in a Target catalogue, or is it all technic stuff going on sale?

  • In before "Usally take a crane to get it out" Meme.

  • +1

    what a cool looking set.

But what a cost for something that I just want to build once or twice, then wouldn't have the space to put it.

Maybe 5 or 10 of us should buy it as a collective, then it spends a month at each person's place. For $20 for a month, I'd be interested!

    • The nice thing about Lego is if you get it at 20% off, you can usually resell it for a profit or close to it after that set has been discontinued.

If you buy this now, keep the box and instructions, and sell in 18 months your total cost of ownership will be nowhere near $200.

      • does this apply if you have opened and "used" the set?

        • That depends on how desirable the set is, how many Lego made and so on. I can't promise anything, and it depends where you live (postage is a bitch), but you might enjoy this set for a year for $50 nett if you buy it at $200. Unlike most "toys".

        • I have collected Lego fro 10 years now and have made very decent profits. I still own a brand new in the box Imperial Star Destroyer 10030 and it is now fetching an easy $4k; that's if you can buy one in Australia boxed!!!

  • We're pretty sure LEGO 42009 is not available at Target - but could be wrong.

    • +1

They do, I put one on LayBy last week.

  • +1

Was ~$199 the other week at Target, put one on LayBy, can't wait to pick it up, fantastic looking kit! :D

    • Fair enough, when we searched online at Target it gives an error that the page has moved, might be out of stock.

      • +1

Yah, I don't think they had many, and this was at a rather large Target, so YMMV.

Either way, $209 shipped is a good price!

        • +1

I wonder if they use these actual cranes to put the sets into the packing boxes!

  • +3

wow that looks neat, would like to buy, but kinda hard to justify it…

I have a friend who is an account, lives with his parents, no GF, and buys thousands of dollars of Lego each year. lol

    • +5

I thought you'd eventually out me on here !!

I'm going to tell mum on you now!

    • +3

I have a friend who is an account

I used to have a friend who was an account, a bank account. Then ozbargain happened

      • +3

Where is your account now? Did you leave him empty and broken?

    • OK FELLAS. I MEANT ACCOUNTANT.

      come at me bros

      Edit: I had a laugh.

  • +1

I haven't bought Lego for years now, but this could be the one!

    • Coming out of the darkages is great!

  • +1 for just being a badass looking Lego crane.

  • All stock is SOLD OUT !

We will repost same deal next week if you missed out once more LEGO Mobile Cranes 42009 arrive in our warehouse.

  • Picked this up the other day for full price ;(

But I am thoroughly enjoying it, taking a long time to build.

I also think I stuffed up a step somewhere as I can't get the legs to extend using the gearing ;)

I have been on a technic lego spree, picked up 4 models in the space of a month, bank account didn't like me ;)

  • Any suggestions as to what would one get a huge LEGO fan as a future gift (sometime next year)? As in sets, annual releases etc. I do not know much about LEGO. Price not really an issue. Thanks.

    • +1

They release new products every six months, and keep products for around a year. Note that Technic is different in connection types, themes and scale than other Lego, so stick with the type of Lego you know they want.

This set is the largest Technic set ever, so it is pretty impressive from that side of things.

This is the next lot of models to come out:

  • Will OP re-stock LEGO Technic Service Truck - 42008

  • What!? That's gotta be about $10 of plastic, right?

Don't get me wrong, I love Lego, but Jesus!

    • A software application CD is less than $0.01 worth of plastic. People still pay thousands for that.

      • I also love…CDs…?

In the same way that a car is about $100 worth of steel?

      • -1

No, in the way that all Lego blocks were designed decades ago, so no money goes into the development of them aside from what's needed from an already existing supply to make (x). In this case, a crane.

Cars and software (I have never heard of software which costs thousands of dollars btw) take many man hours to design.

I hate how in person you would have accepted what I said at face value, but because it's the Internets, I have to spell every last detail of my statement out for you.

Edit: try roughly $500 of steel.

This is actually not at all true. For a start the new technic system was only release 15 years ago, and the first technic system a decade before that. Not as fast moving as the Mindstorm system which gets significant upgrades every few years. Even within the 15 years of current technic there are been several small improvements.

Secondly each model takes a fair bit of design. From concept, to designing the mechanical workings to the getting the model to looks right. On top of this the building order and instructions are very well designed, and obviously unique to each model.

More of an add-on cost than a developmental cost as with cars/software.

basically, we disagree and should just go our separate ways…
