http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114229

here it is again. the sony xperia SP black, on sale again for $297 + Shipping. in-store pick up is free

a few things to note :
visiting the home page, and scrolling down, you can see the deal with the words price blitz highlighted in red. clicking on the product leads to a "page not found" error, but adding the product directly to cart rings it up at $297.
trying to locate the product manually, Browse -> cameras/phones/GPS -> Outright mobiles comes up with the price at $388, but adding the product to cart shows $297
i assume the reason for this is that they are updating the website?

there is a limit of 2 per customer

I have read the reviews and it is not a bad phone. Would be awesome to play games on with the Adreno 320 GPU. However at 155 grams it is a HEAVY phone and I question the value of the bright LED bar in an office environment.

I am waiting for the Samsung s4 Mini 9195 (4G) to come down in price. They have it at Kogan for $419 plus $20 shipping.

Lol 155g "heavy". My phone weighs 167g and I definitely have the arms to show for it!

    • The LED bar is pretty much just a gimmick. The SP is an awesome phone regardless

oops somebody already posted up there lol

    google xperia sp wifi problems

    • But there is a fix for that on xda, link below:

      http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2378862

      • Phone needs to be rooted for that fix.

        • Yeah, can anyone with direct/personal experience with it share/comment about how bad/tolerable they find it? In particular how/does it affect hotspot performance?

        • heard that there's problem with the touch screen if the phone placed or positioned horizontally, just google search xperia sp touchscreen issue.

  • how does this phone compare with the galaxy S3? the specs seem better, but any opinions?

    • Or Nexus 4?

    • and when i say specs, i say it with very little spec knowledge, lol, i just know there are more ghz lol

    • +3

This is a mid end phone. S3 is technically better, although it is far more expensive.

Also if the camera quality is an important selling point for you, then this is probably not a good choice.
      Here's a comparison tool:

      http://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=1&idPhone1=5364&i…

      • Hey, thanks for the comparison tool, prety cool stuff, and the camera quality is lower, but its certainly no deal breaker for me.

I went here for a side by side comparison, it seems fairly similar from my newb knowledge. I'm definately heading in store for a play. Cheers

If you're going to play with one at the shop, make sure to also check the viewing angles and sunlight visibility.

Sony Xperia phones tend to use TFT displays, while a lot of competitors nowadays are packing IPS or AMOLED displays onto their flagship phones.
This may be a deal killer for people who want to use their phone outdoors in the sunlight — TFT displays can look washed out or dim when compared to IPS displays.

        • Aha. I am guess that is why it appeared a bit washed out (black background quite light/grey) to me earlier tonight on a quick inspection at a local store compared to my Galaxy Note, thanks. Did not have a chance to test/adjust brightness but otherwise it seems alright and camera is not quite as good but more than enough for me. And, I have been looking for a cheap upgrade to 4G and a smaller phone.

      • +1

Since cameras are optimized to shoot real-life scenes and not charts, the GSMArena Photo Compare Tool isn't good for comparing exposure accuracy and dynamic range (printed black and white does not compare to a bright light source and a dark shadow).

  • Thanks for sharing OP

    4G LTE 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100

MSY sell the C5303 for $329

  • So tempted to buy 'cause I'm sick of my Blackberry Bold 9700 but must resist as contract is up for renewal in Nov….

    • Tried early upgrade?

  • This phone feels heavy on the hand, cos its solid build. Certainly affordable and nice looking phone. But touch sensitive is a down side. Not as responsive as other phones I've owned, iphone, htc one, nokia 820.

  • +1 for being Sony. Really really good support!

  • +2

Would recommend the Lenovo p780 (~$270 from eBay, ~$250 from tmall sellers if you read chinese)
Quad core, 4000mah battery, bad camera but 5in 720p screen

    • That does not appear to be 4G/LTE.

  • Please mark, expired. And, wish it had been more clearly/prominently marked as today/1-day only because I decided to sleep on it and now it is over :-( I guess that's what you get for not adhering to OzBargain "buy first, ask questions later" mantra.
