  • Genuine question, not trolling, but why would someone want a touch screen monitor? Other than a karaoke machine I can't think of any good uses.

limited spaces, counter tops, kitchens, workshops, lab environments, especially where typing is minimal.
You don't need one when you have room and a large desk, a mouse and keyboard is still better for most operations.

      Windows 8

    • I have one (same model) at work. After playing with it I found out that touchscreen monitors in general lack the precision to operate Windows in ordinary desktop mode, unless you're sitting really close to it.

For e.g It would be pretty difficult to tap the little [+] button to upvote an Ozb comment.

But it would be pretty sweet for internet browsing on the more touch-friendly Metro interface, but who the heck uses Metro on a desktop :/

I'd rather buy an ordinary $200 monitor and add on a $79 Leap Motion controller.

      • where can you buy them for $79?

      • Might have to use a stylus in conjunction, kinda defeats the purpose tho.
Wondering if we need a 21.5" sized screen protector as well lol so you have no worries when wiping away the fingerprint oils at end of the day. Don't really wanna scratch the screen while cleaning it .

I accepted the ergonomics of using a touch screen means the user needs to sit closer to the screen.
Is the lack of precision really glaringly bad? Do you need to zoom everything bigger to press close/minimise etc?

        • Regarding the precision, You either sit very close, or position it closer to you like you do with a tablet, or you activate Metro UI and use that.

I generally won't use the touchscreen in the office because I obviously have to use my desk for writing. Putting the screen closer to me takes up all the desktop.

  • I have to admit there aren't many uses for a touch screen nowadays with tablets having their own remote apps. I use an Acer T232HL on a VESA arm in my lounge room for when I want to listen to music and not fire up the projector. J. River Media Center has an excellent touch screen interface and supports FLAC which are two prerequisites that are hard to find on Windows 8 (other than using Windows Media Center which Microsoft has pretty much abandoned).

This model looks pretty good, I checked out the S2340T a while back, loved the design and how well the touch worked but it didn't have a VESA mount and all the connections (including the transformer) were in the articulated base which concerned me a little.

Also if this uses IPS touch technology like the S2340T it is great from a hygiene perspective for use in lab, clinical and food prep environments. They can be used with thin gloves and are easy to clean - single pane of glass with no bezel for bacteria to grow. I have setup two Acer T232HLs on VESA mounts in the kitchen of the hospital I work for, been going well for a few months now.

  • I wish Dell S2340T 23” was close to this price.

    • Ditto,

Its down to $559 from $699 now.

  • Imagine how sore your arms would get having to touch a monitor screen all day.

    • They should make a braille touchscreen monitor for blind people. That would be kewl
