  • Have you actually received any codes or something to that effect in order to redeem a ticket, or was it more of a heads-up email? I'm just wondering as it might be too late for new signups to get in on this deal. Thanks for posting nonetheless.

  • +3

no, there is no codes or coupon. they just ask me if i can confirm to come on the preview screening or not which is on monday 21 april. since i can't make it, i didn;t confirm. i dont know if its too late, but you can try. no harm registering on the web anyway.

    Woot! Received this email today:

    Hey GreenGuava

Congrats you've scored a double pass for the 'Contagious' Star Trek Australian preview screening in Sydney
    [snip]
Your double pass will be in the post to you today…

For those that will be attending the preview screening, be aware that there will be a follow-up survey which Contagious will send out regarding what you thought about the film and how many people you told about the film after seeing it.

Thanks once again to amazingguess for posting this deal.

Received my double pass today as well (by standard post, not that it matters) :)

I have the hot ticket in my hands now :) Sent by express post but the silly postie delivered it to the wrong address!!!! Luckily the kind person came and dropped the envelope off to me directly and told me what happened instead of just "returning to sender". I'm getting so excited and can't wait to see it.

  • Did anyone go to the Greater Union preview screening of Star Trek on Wed. 22?

  • +2

Well, I've just come back from the Sydney screening of JJ Abrams' Star Trek at George St Greater Union courtesy of the Contagious Network (and OzBargain of course!). If I could only use two words to describe the movie, they would be 'Bloody Awesome'! It was so good to see Star Trek back on the big screen once gain. Even though I'm a fan of Trek, the last few films weren't top notch, so it was great to see fresh new take on the 'Star Trek' story.

Overall the characters were very well done and I think the casting was spot on, with everyone fitting into their roles very well. Pine and Quinto were especially good in their roles as Kirk and Spock respectively, mixing up a bit of the established heritage of their characters along with their unique style to make the roles their own. I would have liked to have seen a bit more substance to Scotty and Uhura, though to be fair, I think Abrams and co. did well given the necessary restrictions on the length of the film and making everything gel together as a story.

Personally I think Abrams did very well in giving the viewer a sufficient introduction and background to all the major characters, as well as creating an easy to follow and interesting story which would appeal to fans and the masses alike. You can tell that the writers have put in considerable effort in maintaining the basic tradition of Trek (ie jargon, technical aspects etc) and although there are aspects which hardcore fans will take issue with, in terms of creating a product that everyone can enjoy, Abrams and co. have done a standup job. Case in point - my friend who came along had absolutely no background knowledge of Trek (and thus no expectations), yet she found the movie to be very entertaining and thoroughly enjoyed herself.

Bottomline, it was a great movie which I think a lot of people will enjoy regardless of whether you're a fan or not. Lets hope this is just the start of the reboot of Star Trek as a franchise. But in the mean time, for those who missed out on the preview tickets for tonight the movie opens next week (7 May) so get out there and go see it! I'm certain you won't be disappointed :D

GreenGuava you beat me to it:) Great review, you've reviewed the movie fantastically!
Thanks again to the original poster, this was a top notch film (wait till you experience 'warp speed'!) so get yee selves off to the surround sound cinema, when it opens! Loved it!

  • I saw the preview in Melbourne last night. I have to admit I've always preferred Next Gen, Voyager, Deep Space & Enterprise over the original Star Trek. But all I have to say is I LOVED IT!!!! It was so well done. The casting was fantastic and I loved the humour in it. My husband came with me and was also very impressed. I really believe JJ Abrams did a fantastic job and kept things true. I'm definately recommending it to everyone I know. Actually I will probably be seeing it again when it comes out as our son was very upset that the ticket was for only 2 people. He's 8 but he's always watching the SciFi channel with us so is growing up as a Star Trek fan :)

I redeemed some loyalty points for Gold Class tickets and they arrived today, so we'll use them to see Start Trek 11 in a couple of weeks.
Our son enjoyed the preview last night and said he thought the movie was great also.

  • Ahhh! So this is where I got the tickets from! XD Got the mail and forgot I'd even tried for them…thank you very much to original poster!

I don't know anything about ST aside from the area called ST:TNG and New Vertigo in the MUD I used to play on, but I thoroughly-enjoyed this one! I did notice there were strange lens flares, though. ._. And Spock with ahem was a bit..strange. But nonetheless. Great movie. Bit chaotic getting the phones back after, but got them so all good. :D

    • Good one Jiggly.
Why don't you post it up as bargain?

  • Do I still have to sugnup with contagious? There are alot of questions to answer just to sign up.

    • If you're referring to the Star Trek preview, then you're too late as the screenings have already been held.

If you're referrring to the Terminator 4 one posted by jigglycho above (and here www.ozbargain.com.au/node/12406) then yes, you will need to sign up as stated on the sign-up page:

pls note only contagious members can enter and receive tickets to these screenings. If your not a member pls sign up first here: www.contagiousnetwork.com.au/signup

  • I finally got to see the movie today @ Gold Class.
I must say I was most impressed. It was an interesting treatment of the plot and I liked the way the familiar characters were brought together. The inclusion of Leonard Nimoy was a winner, though it's scary to see how old he is now.

    Live Long and Prosper,
    Jean-Luc.
