Yes i have a smartphone but googlemaps uses data and i only have 2GB per month and struggle to stay in that limit as is.

    Navfree app. Uses gps only

    • wow really? Does it work as good as a stand alone gps? Would it really be worth the drama/cost considering how cheap gps systems are vs cost of buying a window sucker/stand for my galaxy s2?

window suckers/stand can be bought from aliexpress or ebay for less than $5

        • Great have just been looking at the grip-go one with green suckers looks good didn't know about all this thanks guys saved me $$$ :-)

  • No one buys dedicated GPS anymore. Even the free maps on smartphones perform better. Smartphones generally have much faster CPUs in them so they respond better too.
Nowadays the screen size on your smart phone will probably be large enough as well.

Dedicated GPS are just giant (not so much anymore, only 5") phones running Symbian, Windows Mobile or a custom dumbphone OS and a GPS app.

    • Yeah i'm starting to learn these things, i thought the phone was like a cheap hack / frustrating way of getting the job done on the cheap… think i'm a few years behind the eight ball :P Think my Galaxy S2 will be a great gps :) :)

  • Ok wow is there a good navfree alternative? This has lots of streets missing good a d doesn't even list my suburb.
