Best budget smart phone

Hi All,

I need a new smart phone but don't want to pay the earth. What would you all recommend? I guess I want decent sized memory and a decent camera.

Thanks in advance.

    iPhone5c?

    Just kidding. What's your budget?

For a competitive smartphone with a low price tag and with decent specifications (including camera quality) you'd be looking at a Nokia Lumia 520 which goes for around $150.

In this price range, the Android-based Huawei G510 ($150) is also a fairly decent choice although it is let down by a camera which doesn't fair too well in low light.

But in general you can't really expect a good camera out of a budget smartphone, however Lumia's generally pack better cameras than similarly priced Android mobile counterparts.

    • Work provided me with this one. A good phone which serves most of the Smartphone requirements. As others mentioned the camera is not that great..

  • I was going to add it needs to be unlocked…

  • What is the lg optimus l7 like?

Google Nexus 4, $249 for the 8GB version.

This would actually be a high end phone - around 80% the power of SGS4 at 40% the price.
Has a good camera, but no microSD card slot to extend storage space.

    • Nexus 4 is the best value for money smartphone, period.

  • Samsung Galaxy S2 8MP camera (Resolution 3264x2448).. which I have had for almost 2 years now, and still learning about all its features, or perhaps a S3 $399+ from Kogan. You can still find S2's so consider a bargain. I have been quite happy with mine (was in the $500 mark when I purchased it but I did a good deal upgrading from 3 to Vodafone so paid only about $200 for it, plus my plan has 1GB data included). The S2 has ample memory space and also a microSD card slot to extend the storage space. Comes with 2 different GPS navigation mapping apps also. I have used both; one uses a male voice and the other female. Sometimes they can be a bit too wordy. Both apps cannot just say "turn right at the next roundabout." LOL; you really have to listen to them yourself! I cannot justify spending more dollars on another phone that does more than this one.

Yes, I was very impressed with the SGS2's camera when it first came out. It would be a decent alternative to the Nexus 4 if you prefer a better camera, external memory, removable battery, or Touchwiz.
