Yes all deals posted should require a google search to have any idea what they are.

It's a good price for a Bowers & Wilkins system.

Seems like a decent deal for B&W. Reviews worry me with the A5 given the comments re: distortion on bass at maximum volume > http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2411982,00.asp

That being said, the speakers are $600 and headphones are $229 at Apple >

Plus side of being sold at Apple Stores means I should be able to try a set out!

Terrible, terrible use of Qantas FF points.

66K FFP = one way business class to Singapore or Bangkok (for example) = $1500 RRP.

    • Agreed that flights are always best way to get best bang for buck, but problem for me is whenever I'm flying I never end up footing the bill and if I did, it'd be tax deductible. That being said, on the rare occasion where I've wanted to fly a friend to accompany me on these trips, I've always been impressed by how versatile QFF are (e.g. I used it to fly someone domestic with me when I had a work trip to the States- and it was only 15,000 points; similar to domestic in Australia).

Yeah but that's business class (waste of money imho).

Also Singapore accommodation is not cheap, I just booked 4 nights there for $275 for example. So that's half the RRP of the speakers in extra costs. And that's before you've actually done anything fun.

I'd consider 66k of points used on business class to singapore a waste of money, the "$1500 RRP" means nothing.

I'm sure it's true of most places too. But perhaps an economy flight to somewhere you would have been willing to pay $ to go to would make sense.

      • Some people also believe that a wireless speaker system is a waste of money, but each to their own :P

        • I never made a comment on the value of the speakers.

      • +1

That's like saying holidays are a waste of money…

        • Not quite. Business class certainly is though. And the RRP is an invalid comparison not just due to the difference of business/economy prices, but most importantly because Qantas' competitors are cheaper

          Perth-Singapore return fare in economy = $350

That screws Alphaduck99's $ to QFF ratio pretty hard.

      • Looking at a flight I'm actually interested in SYD-SING in December, it costs $422 one way to Singapore or 52,600 points. Therefore each point is only worth $0.008022.

Using example above of the speakers/headphones worth $829 for 66,000 points, this equates to $0.012561.

Instead of using the cost or value per point method, if we use the points per dollar (lower is better/cheaper), this equates to $1 = 124QFF vs $1 = 80QFF.

      Dont forget taxes

  • Hmm the old school HK Soundsticks III are also "on special" for 29,500 points but I don't think they are that great value given Apple sells them for $250. Using same equation as above of 145 = $1, this equates to roughly $203.

    • Qantas' store has no clue about street pricing of the products on offer. Gee, what a surprise! ;)

Only thing of value I ever got out of QFF was woolworths vouchers. I guess that's $1 = 125 QFF, but at least it actually saved me money rather than being used on something that wasn't what I wanted.

How did you get a conversion rate of 145? 66,000 being equal to 39,600 + $203.28, I got a conversion rate of 130 points to a dollar.

    • +1

I used Woolies gift card as a base rate. i.e. $500 AUD = 72,500 FFP.

  • Best BFB is to purchase this speaker/headphone combo, flog it on gumtree and pocket the cash and buy some ozbargains.

  • Went and listened today at JB Hifi in Broadway (took a while to get it working as apparently someone knocked the thing off the shelf and the power button no longer works). Sounded pretty decent but not $600 decent. Given the amount of noise in the store though, it could definitely go quite loud so I don't think it'd have any issues at a house party. Also listened to the Z2 (the model one below the A5) at Apple Store and that was pretty good but again, I couldn't see myself spending that coin so why spend QFF?

  • After all my procrastination, I've decided to buy one to give my bedroom a decent speaker for listening to at night. Would've been nicer to have something with a Lightning connector (e.g. Z2) but I'm happy to forego that in exchange for cheaper price (than the Z2 on QFF) and better quality audio.

  • My A5 arrived today. Wow that was quick- only ordered it on Sunday! Unboxing experience was quite positive and the speaker seems good quality. It sounds a lot better in a bedroom than in a shopping centre, and it's nice to be able to use Airplay. Setup was a breeze with the app.
