Looking for Stand Mixer $200-$300

Hello,

I'm looking for a good stand mixer for around $200 to $300 as a gift. The person does a bit of baking (mostly cakes, no bread) and sometimes does double batches. Does anyone have recommendations?

From what I have found so far people aren't happy with a lot under $300. Anything along the lines of kitchen aid is very expensive. I've looked for models overseas where prices seem better but nothing stood out.

I saw aldi has a stand mixer for sale Wednesday for $199 which looks good. However their products can be hit and miss and I'm not sure how much better it would be compared to the cheap kogan one available.

It would be great to hear from anyone into baking with their experience or advice.

Thanks

  • Kenwood is the mixer of choice at the spaceship here. If you can afford it, go for the heavier metal ones. Frequently on special and/or come with extras thrown in 'for free'. Big bowl to avoid doing double batches, strong motor (many of the pretty-pretty ones are gutless and can't handle heavier batters), and (in particular the metal jobs) is the sort of appliance you can put in your will to hand down to the next generation.

    • Thanks for the reply. After a bit of searching and lacking other bargains I went with the ALDI mixer. Feels very solid so will have to wait for feedback on how it performs. It doesn't mention it in the manual but it has a section on the front of it to access the drive shaft. So maybe there will be attachments for it down the line or ones already around for whatever model it is based off of.
