Baby monitor with video

Looking for a baby monitor with all or most of these features:

  • video
  • night vision
  • sound
  • viewable/controllable on phone (Android) and/or pc.
  • plays lullaby (optional)

Any suggestions? Are the cheap Chinese versions from ebay worth bothering with?

  • Remember if you have an old Android phone you can use that with something like the IP Webcam app. You might even have mates with some old Froyo or Gingerbread devices they'll give to you.

  • I would forgo some of your features and instead opt for motion (breathing) sensor.

  • I bought a FOSCAM clone from a deal posted here..
Works great except the microphone is WAAAAY too sensitive..
I use tinycam Monitor Pro on our phones and turn the "Squelch" up to 90% (meaning the audio doesn't play audio on the phone until it reaches 90%, which works out to be anything louder than a whimper in reality).
Setting the Squelch any lower than about 70% will result in white noise continually playing through the phone even though no sound is being made.

  • We bought the analogue wireless cameras… $80 or $100 on catch of the day. What a disaster…. interferes… does not have a clean feed.

agree - get a FOSCAM or similar. The full tilt at pan ones are less than $100 and easy to setup…. iphone or android.

    I got mine through mangocam.com.au
    works a treat!

  • Thanks for the feedback. I might have a look at a FOSCAM.

  • you might want to consider the D-link camera from shopping express deal
It meets all your requirements except playing lullaby

    • Yeah, I thought about that but the reviews weren't great and it didn't have night vision. Went for a FOSCAM instead.

  • I got a motorola MBP 30 over a year ago. Downsite is it was based on "old technology", but upsite is that replacement batteries can be had for $3.50 (3 x AA NiMH, just like some cordless phones use).
I think the newer model is the MBP 36 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorola-MBP36-Digital-Video-Monitor…), which can be had from Amazon UK for just over $200. It looks better. Having a good camera with night vision will save you many unnecessary trips, and reduce doubt on what is going on. Also useful to know whether your baby is sleeping or not. Night vision on ours is fine. Some interference with WiFi, though. Mostly around WiFi Channel 13. But if you use a dual band router this will not affect you (because they're on the 5GHz spectrum).
