I have recently purchased my dream block of land on the beach and am now looking a kitchen appliances for our new home. Being a supreme cheapskate I am not really impressed buy brand names but realise that if a house is going to be worth over $1.5 mil I should probably have quality appliances in it. My friends who care about that sort of thing say Smeg but the prices are pretty scary.
Any ideas of brands I should look at and where I might get them cheaper ? The last house I owner built was 12 years ago and I got all my appliances from auctions but that was before online auctions etc. I am in nsw but am willing to travel if it makes sense (eg get a truck full of materials in Melbourne)
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Here's my recommendation.
Try Deluxue Appliances online.
They can be found at http://www.euappliances.com/
They are based in Hungary and sell top quality European brands.
Now, here's my story…
We had been thinking about upgrading our oven for a little while. Friends of ours had built recently and recommended we check out Deluxe for appliances since they were planning on using them.
Well, when the oven blew up we decided the time had come.
We went online and purchased a nice pyrolytic AEG oven. We had looked that this exact same oven in HN and could get it through Deluxe for about 25% less - even after delivery from Hungary.
The site promised delivery in about a week after ordering so we thought we could live with that.
So, we placed the order and waited.
The oven did actually arrive after about a week. When it arrived the wife and I were tempted to just wait until the weekend to unpack it but I finally decided to bite the bullet at just unwrap it because I wanted to have a look at it.
The oven came in two sections - one big box with the oven, another small box with the shelves.
Opened the shelves box - no probs. All seems good. They are serious about packing these things - about ten layers of bubble wrap and then a wooden box, and then polystyrene.
Anyways, it was a bog job unwrapping the oven (big box) with all the protection it had. When we finally got down to the oven we started to pull it out - then noticed the rear corner seemed crushed.
We wondered how it could have happened since it was inside heavy wrapping and a wooden box. Then we realised - it must have happened under its own weight. Someone must have turned it upside down at some point.
So, we advise Deluxe. They tell us we have to make a claim with FedEx. We do that. It takes a while for FedEx to process and accept the claim. Once they do, Deluxe sends us out a new oven.
The one week wait without an oven it now almost exactly one month and it is due to arrive any day.
However, I am still recommending Deluxe - they were good to deal with, very good value, really wrapped this thing well, and took all precautions. After we told them how annoyed we were they even sent us a voucher for next time.
FedEx, on the other hand, I am not so keen on.
Sorry for the novel - just thought people should know Deluxe is great and has good products and good prices - but the shipping is always a risk factor.
