Top End Kitchen Appliances

I have recently purchased my dream block of land on the beach and am now looking a kitchen appliances for our new home. Being a supreme cheapskate I am not really impressed buy brand names but realise that if a house is going to be worth over $1.5 mil I should probably have quality appliances in it. My friends who care about that sort of thing say Smeg but the prices are pretty scary.

Any ideas of brands I should look at and where I might get them cheaper ? The last house I owner built was 12 years ago and I got all my appliances from auctions but that was before online auctions etc. I am in nsw but am willing to travel if it makes sense (eg get a truck full of materials in Melbourne)
Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Here's my recommendation.
    Try Deluxue Appliances online.
They can be found at http://www.euappliances.com/
They are based in Hungary and sell top quality European brands.
    Now, here's my story…
We had been thinking about upgrading our oven for a little while. Friends of ours had built recently and recommended we check out Deluxe for appliances since they were planning on using them.
Well, when the oven blew up we decided the time had come.
We went online and purchased a nice pyrolytic AEG oven. We had looked that this exact same oven in HN and could get it through Deluxe for about 25% less - even after delivery from Hungary.
The site promised delivery in about a week after ordering so we thought we could live with that.
So, we placed the order and waited.
The oven did actually arrive after about a week. When it arrived the wife and I were tempted to just wait until the weekend to unpack it but I finally decided to bite the bullet at just unwrap it because I wanted to have a look at it.
The oven came in two sections - one big box with the oven, another small box with the shelves.
Opened the shelves box - no probs. All seems good. They are serious about packing these things - about ten layers of bubble wrap and then a wooden box, and then polystyrene.
Anyways, it was a bog job unwrapping the oven (big box) with all the protection it had. When we finally got down to the oven we started to pull it out - then noticed the rear corner seemed crushed.
We wondered how it could have happened since it was inside heavy wrapping and a wooden box. Then we realised - it must have happened under its own weight. Someone must have turned it upside down at some point.
So, we advise Deluxe. They tell us we have to make a claim with FedEx. We do that. It takes a while for FedEx to process and accept the claim. Once they do, Deluxe sends us out a new oven.
The one week wait without an oven it now almost exactly one month and it is due to arrive any day.
However, I am still recommending Deluxe - they were good to deal with, very good value, really wrapped this thing well, and took all precautions. After we told them how annoyed we were they even sent us a voucher for next time.
FedEx, on the other hand, I am not so keen on.
Sorry for the novel - just thought people should know Deluxe is great and has good products and good prices - but the shipping is always a risk factor.

    Look at Bosch. Great quality.
Just look at their entry level cooking if you are under a budget.

But if you're spending 1.5mil on a new house, there are other areas you could probably shave some
dollars instead of getting a crap oven for the sake of saving a few hundred bucks.

  • Thanks for the ideas. I am finding it mind boggling trying to work out the differences in the ovens. Another problem was pointed out to me today by my future neighbour - rusting appliances from the salt air. At least I will be saving the money my husband wanted to spend on a monaro.

  • Get Miele. We did and have not regretted it.

    • miele washing machines i would recommend, in laws have one over 15 years old and still going!

i was told by the salemen that miele kitchen applicances aint that good, but i'm pretty sure they just wanted to flog me another brand.

Also miele are usually sold as set prices, miele sets the prices (the salemen usually go online to put the order)

  • Surely, this falls under the butler's list of duties.

    • I am currently advertising for the butler position but I am not getting many applications. Could be because the pay and hours are the same as the maids position (my job) $0 and 24 hours a day - with breaks to go to paid work.
I know $1.5 million sounds ridiculous but this is what we have been working really hard towards for the last 15 years. (This is the house and land price - not just the house).

  • I would never spend that sort of coin on a house and land package. I bought a business of a man who luckily won 4 million on the lotto, and the first thing, he told me he was going to do, is rent a place on the beach front.

I couldn't believe, he was going to rent a house, after winning 4 million, (What a dic%head I thought)

I said , "Why would ya"

He explained to me, that the house was worth 1.5 million and it was renting out at $1200 a week.

He then said he could earn 90,000 in interest on his 1.5 million, take away his $60,000 for rent payments and he'd be about $30,000 better off per year.

He then said, repair not his problem, rates not his problems, and if after a year if he tires from that place he justs moves on, he was also very lucky as he won the lotto about 5 years ago and that 1.5 million house is worth 1.2 million in todays market.

He also mention , the savings on not having to pay settlement fees or selling fees, I know if you get growth, you can do very well.

    Food for thought.

If we all just had a crystal ball, life would be awesome.

  • Horses for courses. I am a property person and haven't lost out so far but like you said you can never tell what will happen in the future. There are always better ways to spend / invest money but being a landlord myself I like the certainty of not being a tenant. Thank goodness there are people who want to rent otherwise on our wages we would never be in position to buy our new house.

There haven't been any houses in the strip I want to live on for rent in the last 5 years that I have been dreaming of / stalking out this block so unfortunately that has never been an option.
