  • I used to play tennis a bit and meaning to get back into it, problem is I don't have a clue about string tension or racquet size stats.. :/

I'm generally a flat player, and more base line rather than net. Would any of these be suitable?

      Hi Astro551,

      As a general rule:

The higher the tension the more control you should be able to get on your shots. However you do lose a bit of power when stringing to higher tensions. Usually this sits on the 57- 60 pounds.

The lower the tension the more power you get on your shots, this is due to the tennis ball sitting on the string a little bit longer. The trade off is because there is a bit more of a trampoline effect you will lose a bit of the control. Usually this sits on 52 pounds and below.

Generally most racquets that come pre strung will be at about 55 pounds and is a good starting point if your are not sure what tension you should be using.

Blade 93: Generally suited to a more experienced player since the head size is a little small and it is considered quite a heavy racquet. The racquet is suited to those who want a bit more control.

Wilson Steam 99s: This racquet is designed to give a player maximum top spin on the ball. Which gives players more clearance over the net. Check out this review. http://www.wired.com/reviews/2013/02/wilson-steam/

Hopefully this will assist you and happy to answer more questions or feel free to pop into our store if in Sydney.
