How to pay for something online without the International Purchase Fee?

Seems like all the banks add a 2.5% - 3% fee on all International Purchases made via Credit or Debit Cards. Do any of the banks have FREE international purchases?

28 Degrees Mastercard or Citi Bank Plus account with its debit card

  • Are you sure about the Citi Bank Plus account? I can't find anything online about it.

This says that the international transaction fee doesn't apply to the plus account.

    • I am sure too. I use it as a secondary account and just transfer a little money into it from time to time (minimises risk). Then I use it overseas as an ATM card at Citibank branches, or online for foreign currency purchases (use like a credit card). Brilliant!

i often wonder if citibank diddle with the exchange rate to make up for the fee

never? They use the VISA conversion rate.

        Check before you troll

      • thanks for the link. i wasn't trolling, i just didn't know.

i tried a small purchase and citibank did indeed use visa's exchange rates. so the plus account appears to be a genuinely good deal then

    28 degrees

  • I have both 28 degrees and Citibank but always use the 28 degrees for online purchases in foreign currency - it is awesome

I too use 28 Degrees, through Paypal

I use this, but you have to check when you pay that paypal is charging your card in the foreign currency instead of doing the conversion at their own rates and charging the card in AUD.

  • Bankwest Zero Mastercard
Interest Free, no annual fee (and no International Transaction Fees for Platinum Cards.)

  • There was/is a recent Citybank Plus account deal but I think you have to go to one of their branch offices and there eere none in Wollongong so I didn't open one :/

    • you can apply online for the citibank starter package and verify your id through an australia post.

  • 28 degrees

  • I just got my 28 Degrees card and I have registered it in Paypal. How can I make Paypal to charge my 28 Degrees card for purchases? Currently Paypal directly debits from my bank account. Tia.

    • Pretty sure there is a drop down box for different payment methods (someone will correct me if wrong :)

  • Does 28degrees charge $2 to pay at postofice? Is there an alternative way to pay without costing $$$?

    • BPAY.

  • $2 payment if you pay cash at PO and limited w' how much you can pay, and you need to take the statement so that thye can barcode it. Use bpay, 28 Degrees is a no cost cc so people paying cash is a pain for them.
