Did I get a Kindle Paperwhite Ad-Supported?

Hi,

I was given a Kindle Paperwhite for Fathers' Day that the wife and son bought from The Good Guys Artarmon, NSW and I can't turn off the ads/recommendations on the front page (Cover-flow or list view) or on the stand-by screen. Yes, I have set "recommendations" to off in settings.

As far as I know the ad-supported Kindles are a US-only product so should not be sold to innocent shoppers by a store in Artarmon. Is The Good Guys selling grey imports or am I missing something?

Would like to be sure before I head down to the store and start yelling at people.
