Cheapest Exotic Holiday!

I am looking for a cheap exotic holiday for two. Preferably Asia and under $1500 for 2 for flights and accommodation. Any suggestions are worthwhile :) We were thinking Fiji or Thailand. Thanks in advance

Fiji is not particularly cheap compared to SE Asia. A few suggestions:

    Phuket, Thailand
    Penang, Malaysia
    Bali, Indonesia

You can definitely do these places for under $1500 if you are flexible with your dates. Try Virgin/Garuda for direct Bali flights out of Brisbane. Air Asia or Scoot from Gold Coast to rest of Asia.

Tunehotels.com are a really good budget choice in Asia.

Or if you wanted somewhere really exotic and different from your usual resort holiday you could consider Solomon Islands. A bit more effort to organise as you normally need a seaplane to get to the islands but could be done for $1500. Have a look here for ideas: http://www.visitsolomons.com.sb/backpackers-budget-hostels

  • My partner and I have recently organised a two week holiday to Sabah (Malaysia Borneo).

Our holiday includes a scuba diving certification, island resort for 4 days 3 nights, and hotel stays other nights, plus guided tours.

Our cost including all flights comes to $4200, but if you take out the island resort (you can visit other equally beautiful islands on day trips) and the scuba diving certifications, the price comes down to $1800.

Further more, if you are only staying for a week, it will be well within your $1500 budget including hotels, airfares (need to catch AirAsia Specials $700 for two PAX return inclusive of tax and luggage), local transport, food, and some tours.

By the way, we're staying in mid range hotels such as Four Points by Sheraton and King Park Hotel.

Thailand, but for your budget you will have to go with a Low Cost Carrier eg Scoot (stop over costs though), Jetstar, AirAsia (Watch for sales & booking well ahead). Avoid Phuket (unless you are spending your entire holiday in a 5 star resort)- beaches are nothing compared to Australia, and the town is full of pimps, pros, and rip off artists. Public transport is run by taxi, motor bike taxis, and tuktuk mafias & a real rip off - Fixed price trips. I recommend AirAsia and do Bangkok and Hua Hin. Minivan Bkk to HH 180 Baht per person (they run all day every day). Guest houses in HH are brilliant, and easy to find around at 500 baht for 2 persons for central clean aircond GH. They have ensuite and are as good as a hotel. They are nothing like guest houses that we are used to. More like a family run boutique hotel, but no pool. HH has a good beach. If you do a lot of research you can get a good hotel in Bkk 1200 baht. PM me if need extra info.

That sounds really good! I've never heard of Hua Hin before but I will definitely check it out. And I agree definitely just the cheapest flights. I saw Thai airways had $480 return per person in February so will probably go with that.

Thai air return for $480? What are the dates for that? It's just what I'm looking for!

I doubt it very much that you can get Aust to Thailand with ThaiAirways $480 return. Not even for 'one-way'. Not even from Perth. A few seats available at a current special Syd - Bkk $828 Oct/Nov 2013.

Comes up with $432 but I read there were fees included (looks like around $30) February 2. It's not letting me copy the Link but it was on Webjet from Brisbane to Phuket.

That would be a one way fare. You will then have to select the fare for your return leg. Then add both the fares to get the total fare.

        • Sorry if I'm wrong, I'm a bit of a rookie at this! It's the first time I'm booking them myself

Don't worry, you can't go wrong playing with the airline web sites and doing trial bookings until you get to the payment page…but then DON'T put your credit card details in :o) You will soon get to know them well. Good on you for having a go!
