Replacement Car Keys for Toyota (need electronic device for immobiliser as well)

I thought this info would be easily be available on online. However, surprisingly I am not able to find any help.

Basically, I wanted to get a replacement car key and was wondering if anoyone know what is the best and cost effective way to do this.

I actually lost the spare key. So, I need the copy with the electronic device for the immobiliser. I guess thats the main issue. I know i can get a new one from ebay but then it doesn't solve the immobiliser problem.
I really dont want to pay hundreds of dollars to the Toyota dealer.

Any thoughts?

As far as I know, you can only get a copy of the key with the electronic device from Toyota, and they will only make a particular number of copies per car.

  • You don't program the key (if it has a transponder) or remote, you program the car to accept keys and remotes.

My friend rang Toyota to get a spare remote for his early 00 Corolla, it was under $100.

    key programming:

  • Mr. Minit will do it for around $120

  • What model Toyota is this for? Do you have any keys left?

    • its toyotta corrolla

  • Alos, check yr ins policy, some cover it.

  • some keycutting places can redo remotes, mainly the more popular models like commodores and falcons, should be able to do a toyota

  • For my Avalon, I had keys done at Keycutting place, and seperate remote done at Toyota. Not expensive at all. I still had a key and a remote, so not sure if you can do it without. I believe that if you have neither, then it is very very expensive and there is a unit in the engine bay that needs to be replaced.

  • good locksmiths can do it, if you're in Adelaide try Goodwood Locksmiths, we got a replacement key, transponder and programming from him for a Rav4.

  • update: bought key from ebay with the code thing for $10. I'll try to program it using that youtube video. I'll let you know how it went.

    • so did the code thing work for u? I'm looking to get a spare key done for Nissan pulsar which also has remote and boot keys..

      • Na. I gave up. Basically couldn't find key cutter to cut cheap. Also can't buy honda civic key with immobiliser from eBay

        • okay..i have asked from one of the guys from shopping centres and they said would be able to do for my car for 75$. Maybe you can give a shot..

        • @johnnybravoo0:
Yeah that's why i left it. Basically nrma covers it in case of emergency anyways. My concern if basically accidently locking car with key inside.

        • @dealonaustralia:
That's the same concern I have.. Rather than worrying and running at loss of key, it's better to get one done for peace of mind.. I'll keep looking.
