Cheap 365 plan for family

At the moment my wife is on the Optus 6 month $30 plan, I am on the Vodafone $30 365 plan and my son will be getting a mobile phone for his birthday on monday and we want him on a cheap 365 day plan.

What is the cheapest plan the the three of us could go on that would allow mobile to mobile calls free/cheap and have a long expiry date.

We rarely use the phones and only use about 5-10 call/sms each month at the most.

My son will have the internet part of his phone turned off and we will ensure that he uses it rarely only.
(Yes I know it will be almost impossible, but we will try).

Looking at any type of plan that all 3 of us can go on and not pay more than about $30 per 365 days (or 6 months at the least).

Thanks

    • waiting for over 1 month for sims to arrive, now they say they no longer sell them over the internet.
Might not see them and if i do i only ordered 2.

      • I have a spare Aldi Sim. Can sell it to you if you need it. Wont charge you more only what i paid + shipping charge($5+ whatever)

  • Try this http://www.lebara.com.au/prepay/rates
Free calls within network and credit lasts for 90 days.
I believe the minimum recharge amount is $10(?) which would mean $40 per year.

  • You might wanna check this out: http://www.lycamobile.com.au/en/
    - Free calls within network
    - Credit doesn't expire as long as you use it every 90 days

    • Where exactly does it say that credit doesn't expire as long as you use it once every 90 days?
I saw this but took it to mean that you had to recharge every 90 days or be cut off.

      • If the credit doesn't expire then this would be even better than Lebara.

      • I have one - just for the occational overseas calls.

It use to be on their marketing material/ website when I bought mine (& that's one of the key reasons why I chose it over all the other companies that offer low international rates) but I can't seems to find it on its website anymore. However, my last top up was a year ago and I've still got credit in my account.

[For added reassurance, you can double check with them since no where on their website mention anything about expiry of credit either.]

The requirement to use it at least once every 90 days comes from the following FAQ:

Q: I have not used my Lycamobile for a while and it has now stopped working. Why is this?

A: We automatically deactivate SIM cards if you do not use them to make a call or send a text for more than 90 days. Unfortunately these SIM cards cannot be reconnected and the mobile number also stops being available for you to use after this time.

  • Lycamobile is great. Go with Lycamobile if you make a lot of phone calls between family members, since it costs you nothing to call Lyca users. I recommended this to my parents and a little bit of credit lasts them ages.

The only thing about Lycamobile is that it's 2G only… meaning that internet is god-awful slow. By default, web access is turned off and it can only be used after you have called them up and arranged it.
