Feeling ripped off Optus and TheAustralianMovieVouchers.com movie vouchers

Purchased some movie vouchers through Optus at the end of the year as Christmas Presents as "bargained" on OzBargain

During the January holidays, we used the vouchers we already had

There was nothing appropriate released during the Easter break suitable for Tweens (only lots of violence)

Lots of releases for the June holidays. Kids excited to be going to see Monsters University & Despicable Me 2!

BUT then I noticed the vouchers were only valid to May 2013.

I went onto theaustralianmovievoucher.com.au site and read that vouchers were valid for twelve months.

Send multiple emails to "Contact Us" form on the site

Finally tracked down a working mobile phone number to be told that the Optus tickets are only valid for 3 months.

Sure enough the Optus site does NOW states 3 month validity

Absolutely no way were Optus or the Australian Movie Voucher company prepared to reissue these tickets

Basically Optus and The Australian Movie Voucher Company are $60 richer

How there can be two sets of T&C's applying, I don't know.

I was told that the vouchers are loss leaders! Personally the ones I bought obviously were NOT loss leaders!

Since I purchased the vouchers from a "lead" on OzBargain, I thought I'd share my experience for those naive potential customers who thought movie vouchers were valid for 12 months.

Sorry Dendy. It is too hard to support you. It was nice planning a day in the city with the children on a $2.50 fun day ticket and catching a movie at the end of the day. It was a treat we could enjoy every 3-4 months, alas no more.

  • Optus site has always stated expiry if I remember correctly.

Optus Rewards is managed by TLC Marketing, even if they supplied you with "Australian Movie Voucher" they only need to have the validity as it states on the optus site.

  • +2

I also remember they were 3 months only and on the tickets i got.
OP you can't always assume they are 12 months validity I know the ones you buy in bulk physically are normally 12 months long but the same can not be assumed with all of them and should always read the T&Cs.

Lesson learnt and move one :)
As a tip I only ever buy the Optus tickets either on the day I decide to watch the movie or before the session and show it on my phone, it's a bit gut wrenching waiting for the email since optus changed to hoyts but always comes through.

  • Vouchers always have exp date. Cant go wrong for $10 Extreme screen sessions. Book online and here you go
