Decent price on the first two games in the series, Infinite is not as cheap as it is in the States, but there is not much we can do about that.

  • Bioshock - $4
  • Bioshock 2 - $4
  • Biohsock: Infinite - $28
  • Bioshock: Infinite Season Pass - $20

Use GMG20-KCDKK-H4TPB to get the price on Bioshock 1 and 2.

    Are you sure your Bioshock Infinite price is right? I had an email from GMG saying it was 15 pounds ($26) minus an 20% (roughly $21?)

    edit/ just checked myself, you're right, that is a BS AU tax.

  • +3

    Yeah, unfortunately sometime ago 2K had GMG inflate their prices for Aussies and Kiwi's, to "fight back" GMG released the 30% off coupon above, but it hardly makes up the difference. The game is $16 in the States. However $28 is still a hell of a lot cheaper than the Steam Store.

    Guys, I still have a spare Bioshock Infinite voucher that I got with my two 7790 Video cards. Im willing to let it go for $20. If anyone is interested PM me.

    • PM sent

      • 2 things about those 7790 codes:

        • AMD has run out of Bioshock Infinite codes, and is waiting on more from the publisher. You can redeem the code AMD gives you, but the email will say "we'll send you the code soon". I've been waiting almost 2 weeks.

        • It does, however, include a free code for Far Cry - Blood Dragon when you redeem the AMD code. It's a 100% off voucher for the game on uplay, basically, and it works fine.

        • haven't heard back from him yet anyway :-/

  • Anyone got tips for getting these working on windows 8? I got Bioshock 1 and 2 a while ago but 1 has no sound and 2 fails to boot :/

    • +2

      For the sound issue.

      • Run the game in compatibly mode.
      • Enable stereo mix
      • It sounds dumb but as a last resort, plug a microphone into you pc.

      As for Bioshock 2, it is most likely to do with your install of GFWL.

      Hope it helps.

        No need for compatibility mode or a microphone, just enable Stereo Mix in your list of recording devices.

        1. Open Control Panel and find the "Sound" settings. (In Category View it will be under Hardware & Sound > Sound).

        2. Select the "Recording" tab and right click in the list of devices. Make sure "Show Disabled Devices" is ticked.

        3. You should now see "Stereo Mix" as a recording device. Right-click on it and select "Enable".

        4. Disable all other recording devices as they may cause echo/reverberation effects.

        5. Right-click Stereo Mix again and select "Properties". Go to the "Advanced" tab and set the output format to match your default Playback format for your soundcard or onboard audio chipset.

        It was a known issue on Windows 7 too.

      • Thanks for the advice guys (including Amar89), I'll try this when my hard drive is working again. Currently doing a chkdsk because it wouldn't let me write to it :x

    Also, I've taken the liberty to post the mouse-lag and field of view fixes for BioShock 1; in case anyone gets majorly frustrated:

    1. To the fix the FOV cut-off present when using a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio, navigate to C:\Users\Your User\AppData\Roaming\Bioshock and find the "User.ini" file.

    2. Ensure it is not in Read-Only mode and that Users/Administrators have full priveleges to edit/modify the file under the "Security" tab in the Properties menu.

    3. Open the file with Notepad, find the [Default] section where the keybindings are listed and bind an unused key to "SetFOV 90" without quotes and another key "ResetFOV" without quotes.

    E.g. Home=SetFOV 90
    End=ResetFOV

    ** You will need to hit the "SetFOV" key each time you load a savegame or quicksave. (Also ensure the "Horizontal FOV Lock" setting is disabled in the game's graphics options).

    1. To fix the input lag, first of all disable Vertical Sync.

    2. Navigate to C:\Users\Your User\AppData\Roaming\Bioshock\Bioshock.ini (different from User.ini) and again ensure it is not read-only and that you have maximum privileges to edit that file.

    3. Find the the following strings: "CaptureMouse=","ReduceMouseLag=", "DoubleBufferMouseLag=", and ensure they all have the value, "True".

    4. Next navigate to the following files:
      C:\Program Files (x86)\2K games\BioShock\Builds\Release\DefUser.ini (Default BioShock directory)
      C:\Users\Your User\AppData\Roaming\Bioshock\User.ini

    Ensure they are not read-only and that maximum privileges are allowed.

    Open both files, scroll to the bottom and add the following text:

    [Engine.PlayerInput]
    MouseSmoothingMode=0
    MouseAccelThreshold=0.0

    Find the section of both files that lists the key bindings, it will look like this:

    A=StrafeLeft
    B=AmmoSelectionDown
    C=Duck

    Assign to an unused key, the following command "set Engine.PlayerInput MouseAccelThreshold 0.0 | set Engine.PlayerInput MouseSmoothingMode 0". (Do this for both files)

    ** You will need to press this key every time you load a savegame or quicksave.

    Go to Edit>Replace in Notepad and replace every instance of "Speed=2500" with EITHER "Speed=500" if you prefer lower sensitivity or "Speed=1000" if you prefer higher sensitivity.

    Miscellaneous tweaks:

    • BioShock does not support Anti-Aliasing. (Forcing AA via Graphics Drivers' control panel likely won't work.)

    • To ensure you are running in DirectX10 mode, find the string "RenderDevice=" in the BioShock.ini and ensure it's value is "D3DDrv10.D3DRenderDevice10".

    • To avoid stuttering find the string "AvoidHitches=" in the BioShock.ini and set it to "True" and set the "CacheSizeMegs=" string to "128".

    • Quad-Core CPU's should have the string "HavokNumThreads=" set to "4" in the BioShock.ini

    • Ensure "DynamicShadowDetail=" is set to "High" in the BioShock.ini

  • Great find thanks mate.

    I believe there was a deal through Steam where Bioshock 1 + 2 could both be had for $5 all up.

    Might be worth waiting until around Xmas for the next set of Steam sales to save another $3 as that deal would almost certainly come around again. Then again, if you want to play Bioshock 1 + 2 before then, this is still a good deal.

    I call myself a gamer and have never played any of the Bioshock games, shame, I know.

    • +3

      Ah, that is a shame indeed. I think you would really like it, so would you kindly give it a try?

      • Whilst I love scary films and gratuitous gore as much as the next guy, I have trouble playing games where the objective is to push through fear (created from scripted events) induced situations. Take for instance Doom 3. I had no problems watching a mate play it, but I just couldn't hack it myself.

        I bought Deadspace and Amnesia a while back and the same thing happened early on whilst playing them, even though I could totally see how awesome they are. I would then go on youtube and watch play throughs of the entire games.

        Then there are the super "scary" games like Slenderman which I have no trouble with. It's a weird situation.

        • +1

          Bioshock isn't a horror game like System Shock so you should be alright

      Maybe you're thinking of the Amazon deal? Comes around every blue moon

    There is literally no reason to be throwing all that extra money away for Steam keys that are EXACTLY the same as those issued to other countries, simply due to us being 'Australians' and are perceived to be able to fork out more.

    Unless SteamDB.info shows a bundle that is specifically for AU, then a purchase from US (or even Brazil) can be activated here.
    Sure sometimes it takes a US forwarding address, US phone number, and a proxy but it is more than worth it.
    If anyone needs help with assisted purchases then PM me.

    • +1

      I am pretty sure you can't post bargains on Ozbargain that require a proxy though? I may be wrong.
