Harvey Norman Black & Decker Rechargeable 18V Lithium Ion Dustbuster Flexi Vacuum Cleaner $69

620

This is a replacement for the Black & Decker 12V Dustbuster Flexi vacuum cleaner they had before this. the 12v is in the catalogue listed for $69. but for some reason the new 18V Lithium ion that replaced the old one is also priced at $69. The Listed price on the box is $229. The check out chick was in a bit of shock when she seen the price on her screen.

I preferred the old grey colour. The new black one has part silver coating that makes it look a bit cheap.

Invoice for those that need it.

    Which HN?

    • +1

Auburn, Sydney but im assuming nation wide?

  • +1

This would be pretty much the perfect thing for vaccuming a car right?

What's the battery life and suction like?

    • "whats the suction like? " … yes, we all know you want it for 'vacuuming the car' ;)

      • +3

It doesnt suck. I mean it sucks but it doesnt suck. If you buy it ull get ur fair suck of the sauce bottle.

        • +5

          Uncle Kev, is that you?

        • Yes now vote for me. I need a fair suck of the sauce bottle

  • +1

How does this compare to a dyson dc44?

    • +2

      Its definitely not overpriced. :P
Seriously thou ur comparing $69(rrp 229) vs $400.
Id say go instore and try them both out. HN has both.

      • +2

Yeah I realise that… Wondering what an extra 300 gets you.

        • +2

To be honest. Not very much. I have used the pivot 18v B&D and it almost never lost suction. At $69 i think its worth the money. Couldnt not tell the diff between Dyson & B&D 18v but i recommend you go try it urself.

  • +5

I reckon that if you left this on the driveway next to the car for too long that your garden snails would begin to worship it as a God!
Either that - or try and tie it down like a giant Snail Gulliver!!

I'm curious as to how this made the front page with only 12 upvotes?

OP, are you a mod by chance?

    • +1

is there any deals with more upvotes(16 so far) than this in the front page?

      • +1

Well, all of them have more than 12.

I thought the cut off from side panel (or through searching) was 16-17 up votes before it made the shift to the front page. I spend way to much time on this site and would always notice the shift at around 16-17 votes.

I was just surprised to see something on the front page with such a low rating.

Hot Deals Can Reach Front Page without Reaching Minimum Votes
          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/71330

P.S. I'm not sure if we are looking at the same "front page" LOL

        • Could be all the comment upvotes. There's probably a Black & Decker rep voting on all the comments.

        • I wouldn't think so as there's too many of those listings where it never moves from +1 but everyone is bantering and +1'ing eachother in the comments section. EDIT: Actually you might be right there, that 'Putnam' poster just upvotes every post in this thread :/

The reason I find this pretty important is that deals once they reach the frontpage get much more exposure and I find that people will willy-nilly up vote any thing on the front page regardless of it it's a good deal or not.

As people may be aware, the mobile site only displays listings that have reached the front page. So, to get a deal to the front page faster also guarantees more exposure just from the mobile crowd.

        • +1

That's an interesting link. So it's +20 by default and it can be changed? I can't find the setting to change it, weird.

Here's a screenshot I took of when it hit the frontpage at +12 votes. You can also see another listing in the side panel with 12 votes and it didn't make the front page.

Only 11 votes to be on the front page within the first 30 minutes
12 votes if it has been posted for more than 30 minutes but less than an hour
13 votes if more than an hour but less than 1 1/2 hours
          14 votes if …

        • +1

Problem is that it took over an hour to reach 12. I posted a link to the image above but here it is again http://i.imgur.com/EIVdMyb.jpg

        • +1

under settings>deals what is your minimum setting for the front page?

        • The default '20'. Which is obviously an error as 16-17 was always the shift point until today when I noticed 12.

          Weird.

        • +2

Problem is that it took over an hour to reach 12.

          57mins actually :)

Real ozbargainers only use the "new deals" page.

        • that's what I got as my first bookmark on every browser/device ;)

  • +3

I spoke with a salesperson who showed me that not one Harvey Norman store in Victoria has any in stock - they are apparently being shipped urgently from Black & Decker.

Take it with the appropriate grain of salt but I found it interesting.

    • +1

Well I have already bought mine

    • This shows the stores are confused. NO stores have the 12 volt in the catalogue.

Stores do seem to have stock of the 18 volt - seen stock at Preston and Thomastown in VIC.

  • +4

I have both flexi and dyson 35/45. I gifted the flexi to my dad in 2010 - good vacuum still going strong, the only problem is filter needs replacement which I bought 2 months back from bunnings for 15 bucks each i think.
I personally prefer the dyson but I paid big bucks for it.

    • yep im with you on the Dyson, specially if you or anyone in your family has dust mite allergies… its done wonders for my 2 year old :)

    • +1

Then u should vote for the deal

      • -2

Mate, looks great deal but I am afraid this is just an error and will not be available. If I can get one, there will be a sweet + coming your way.

Congratulations on scoring one yourself and thanks for posting.

        • +4

The fact that they have the big price printed saying $69 for the 18v is a mistake?

        • If this or other stores don't honor it. It would be a mistake. Do you have a receipt?

        • +1

yes, i do in the car. Ill try and go get it a bit later.

        • Most likely a store specific special, just as this one was http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/105401

        • Just tried to purchase one and NO DEAL! I was shown the computer and the cost price was $145 plus GST.

If you got one, I suggest you got lucky from some ones mistake.

        • Just called in to another VIC store after deal being rejected at Preston.
I was told by the franchisee that there was an issue getting the 12 volt product.

          http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/53368/18047/image.jpg

As the 12 volt was not available he thinks some stores may have tried to offer the 18volt as a replacement. So he thinks the deal is probably legit, but he was unable to go below $145 at his store. But other stores may be prepared to do the deal.

          Good luck to everyone!

Couldn't find it on HardlyNormal's site… gutted. Nearest is Black & Decker 18V Dustbuster Pivot Hand Vacuum for $129.

Poop… because srsly that photo looks like Darth Vader's vacuum cleaner what he uses to clean the burnt bits of skin out of his bodpod. It's l(ike the Kawasaki GPZ1000RX (from the 1980s - in black) of vacuum cleaners.

    • they had the 12v one on there till yesterday. now thats gone. Possibly will come back with the 18v one soon

  • Saw this at Auburn on Sunday, but figured it was a mistake.
The suction on it feels a lot better/stronger than almost all the other portables I've tried so far.
All except the Dysons… but then again, this is only $69, the Dyson's are $2/300+

  • clearly a pricing error.

  • +2

Did you buy one? Can you upload the receipt, please? Might help when I try to get one in the morning :-)

  • cant find it on the HN website !?

  • Cheers op, bought one from the Auburn store for $69 at 9:00am this morning.

I was told this a run out model, that is why it is heavily discounted.

    • was there much left in stock? thanks

    • Grey Sweater? Think I saw you walking out with it. Managed to get one as well. There were three left after I picked one up, though after all the hype I think the staff decided to jump on the train as well.

  • So I spoke with the salesperson @ Blacktown and was able to pick it up for $85 (was on sale for $88). He said they are clearing this model but the sale is store specific as they are a franchise and he wouldn't match the price given by OP. Still a decent deal but availability will depend on each store.

  • just rang Nunawading(VIC) store they guy said they dont have stock but will be taking orders and we might get those in a week.Placed a order and its in store only,if this helps any one.

  • Yes I did..didn't ask if I could pay partly
Give that a go if want to

    • Do you have a receipt because I just called and they said they couldn't do that price.

  • When I was paying an employee (really nice guy) told me that it's $69 for all Harvey Normans on the system. However, because it's a franchise its up to the owner to decide the final price. Eg Harvey Norman Domayne just 20 secs down the road have it on special for "$199".

Also he tells me someone made a mistake since it's the newest model but most stores should still honor it until father's day.

It may be worthwhile to just get a cashier to scan the box. That was the price came up immediately whereas at Domayne he considered it from cost price.

    • +2

I have had 2 Vic stores scan the 18 volt version and both scanned at $229. 12 volt scans at $69.

      Are people confusing the two?

      • Which Vic stores did you check out?

        • +1

          Preston and Thomastown

        • +1

Just tried Preston myself- no deal - they mentioned another customer asking about the same vacuum.

  • Wife called HN Taren Point NSW, they said no stock but will be getting more soon. I'm not sure but if my wife and/or the person on the phone where talking about the correct item :)
Can someone who got one post a receipt here please?

Update: Just called HN Auburn, sold out and they will not be getting any more :(

    • I was at Taren Point HV at 11:00 and I got one. There was at least 3 there. Remember show the lady this post, otherwise she will charge you at $229.

  • Just tried HN Traralgon, no deal. Was scanning at $169.

  • +1

I went to Taren Point HV. Scanned it at $229 and I showed the cashier this post, she gave me at $69. I am so happy. When I was there at 11:00, there were still 3. Be quick!

    • +2

A big thumbs up for this super deal. Moorabbin in Vic honoured the deal. Have to be quick though because staff have been eyeing them off.

  • I just called HN Hoppers Crossing. lady there said that the 12v is $69, but they are out of stock.

the Platinum is $169 and the Flexi is $229.

  • +1

Just get one from Garden City (QLD) for $69. Still plenty of stock there.

  • +1

    Reporting in from:

Broadway shopping NSW. only display model/box left. Price checked in their system and no discount but display model discount offered was $149 :-P

Moore park super center had a display and one unopened one left. No signs for discount but at the counter the system said $69 so quickly grabbed one. The guy behind the counter was super nice and very surprised. He double checked the price and said someone purchased this yesterday too so honored the deal :-)

Alexandria NSW had 5 in Stock but no discount, system said full price and salesman offered a $30 discount ($199) so no go.

Checked out the catalogue and it's the 12 volt model that is $69 however non of the 3 stores in visited had the 12 volt model in Stock :-$

So definitely a mistake in price but probably due to having no stock of the 12 volt model.

Awesome find, thanks op and good luck fellow ozbargainers :-)

Ps also grabbed some free big macs on my drive :-D

    • Just checked out the 2nd Harvey Norman in Alexandria, also had 5 in Stock but was full price with a salesman discount of $149 also (very nice sales people at all stores) so no go here too. Probably should have showed them the photo from op :-P

      • +1

Hmmm, If you grabbed one earlier from Moore Park, wouldn't you show that receipt @2nd HN Alexandria and multiply your chances for a pricematch?

        • Good idea. However I only wanted to get one for myself, so went to the Alexandria stores only to check stock/price and update here :P

If my friend wants one I'll go with them with the receipt and try for a price match. Cheers

  • Wangf Can u pls confirm one you bought from garden city was it 18v or 12v

    • It's 12v.

      • Are people starting to see that there is confusion with the 12v and 18v?

It would be good to hear how many people have bought the hard to find 12 volt at $69.

or if people have been lucky to get the $229 18 volt discounted to $69.

        • I go back to store and check. The lady look into their system and can't even find the 18v there. She said every state has their own product line, except for big items like TV, fridge, etc., which should be the same across the country. For small appliance like this one, they are different.

  • Just bought the 18v model from the Castle Hill Supa Centre.
I got the last one although the display was sitting on top.
So I guess you try for that.
Had $229 on it….he price matched Auburn

  • +2

I tried most places in VIC to get the same deal, Moorabbin sold out and said they will not be getting anymore in.
I tried Highpoint, Watergardens and Sunshine.
Highpoint said the best price they could do was $150 and laughed when I said Moorabbin sold them for $69, saying NOO WAY!
Sunshine dropped down to $98 when I mentioned Moorabbin
And Sydenham (Watergardens) would only go as low as $89.
I thought this was still a good price so I purchased for $89

    • From $229, $89 for the 18 volt is still a good deal.

      • Yes that's what I thought so I still went ahead with my purchase

    • Was it the flexi or the platinum you got for $89?

      mind posting a receipt pls?

      • +2

        Hi Hero
Yes I will post receipt when I get home. I spoke to a guy name Billy in the Electrical department if that helps. I said to him that Sunshine was going to give it to me for $89 and could you match that. And he did with no hesitations. (even though Sunshine said $98).

        Also it was the flexi
Black & Decker PD1800EL-XE 18V Dustbuster Flexi Lithium

        • Cheers, thanks for that!

        • Hi Hero
I am new to this site and unsure how to upload an image

        • You can upload a picture on a website like tinypic.com and then link it here.

  • Went to the dandenong south HN, only display left, the lady told me is 69, the manage does not want to sale it to me for that price, he said the 100 is the lowest he can do, I spend 20 mins to ask for same price, finally get it for 69, no box or manual, but still very happy, suction is much better than my old one.

  • Got one from HN @ Domayne Auburn, the sale person was nice, checked the system, and was told their cost price was right for the sale price of $69.

Had three left about 1hr ago.

  • Its amazing how one post from me has sent the Ozbargainers out hunting! :D Now if only all HN just got onboard and offered the same deal as my HN

  • -1

Just got one from Wiley Park Nsw. 1more left(plus 1 demo). Ask for Mark(lovely guy) and show OP's photo! Smooth $69!
Thanks OP, happy to post a receipt when i get home

    • +3

here is the receipt in case it helps: http://oi39.tinypic.com/kd0kkn.jpg

      • Interesting it hints original price was $99, yet most stores are showing $229.

        • There was no $99 price tag or sale tag anywhere on the shelf, just one HN sticker on the actual box with the full price $229. When the guy checked on the pc I saw the $99 price coming up and he changed it manually to $69.

  • Thanks Wangf
Any one in QLD got 18v? Can anyone post receipt please?

  • No stock in Newcastle, NSW.
I've also checked The Good Guys - no stock either.

  • +3

Invoice for those that need it.
