Bing Lee had stock a while back and could sell me one for $1399 (possibly even less), so this is an okay deal if the shipping isn't too high. I prefer the recent Sony Bravia 37S LCD $999 deal, which is what I ended up with. :)
If anyone's considering 37", check your metro Kmart in case they have the 37S back - and say Bizi sent you. I bought one last Thursday!

Can't really compare the Bravia with this model… for starters, the Bravia is only 1366x768…

But price is pretty good, my brother in law bought a 37" Full HD Panasonic early this year for $1700, but he didn't really shop around for the best price.

$200 shipping to WA is a deal breaker

  • Almost gone

Just goto your local HN,DickSmith,JB and price-match people
Any branded 37" FULL HD under $1250 would be a bargain

  • so tempted…

  • great price IMO.
    bought one! :P

Who buys a $1300 TV from COTD?
See if you can get it price matched at a major retailer.

For me (playing video games) a 37" is too small.
I have a 42" and am looking to upgrade in size.

And I agree with buying from retailer rather than COTD.

    Hmm..

As someone who sells these TVs daily, I feel compelled to share with you that they have very low overall brightness and the PQ in general is somewhat lacking. The 100Hz doesn't particularly work as well as I've seen others (Panasonic) and even the $1100 37LG30D or Samsung LA37A450 would be a better unit (in my humble opinion).

Sure, it's full HD, but in a screen this size it's impossible to tell the difference between 720p/1080p.

Shame it's only a one day deal but I would definitely check this TV out in person before buying it. It's possibly the worst 37" out there. I mean, it's all personal preference, and my preference is not this unit.

Bing Lee should have all Sharp, Samsung etc on display so go and see what it's like before putting any money on it. Bing Lee wouldn't have a problem doing $1350 on it, either.

    • Is there a bing lee in melbourne? If not then the above commment doesnt really help.
Plus HN sorta just smirked at me when I when I tried to price match. Interesting. (They couldn't really give me any other deals with 100HZ that we of similar price, brand and quality. I think i may purchase.)
As someone who doesn't know alot about TV's… can you compare panasonic LCD TV's with Sharp?

      • +1

Ok, no Bing Lee in Melbourne. I always forget to mention that.

However, my point still stands - never buy TV without seeing it in person!

To answer your question regarding Panasonic vs. Sharp - no, you can't fairly compare the two. Panasonic pour millions of dollars more into their R&D than Sharp do and it shows in many areas. Ease of use is one, picture quality is another. The PQ of a Panasonic 37" Full HD will mop the floor with just about anything else on the market, but they are priced accordingly ($1700+). Unfortunately Panasonic have had very little stock of the 37" unit and it is being replaced in the coming month(s) by a new model.

Still, very few people (including sales people) understand what 100Hz does and how it effects your picture. People know it helps motion, but the truth is much more complicated. I don't know if this TV has a frame-creator of sorts or if it simply doubles the scan per second, and if it's the latter (which it more likely is) then you'll only reduce flicker and not blurriness or jitteriness.

guy84, I would suggest you take a look the LA37A450 or the 37LG30D which are at least $200 cheaper and in my opinion, better quality (not Full HD though and not 100Hz).

        • unfortunately I want FULL HD. I do have blu-ray & XBOX 360 units. I think for the price of being full HD & size - 37"… its a pretty good deal. Being 100HZ is a bonus in my eyes. But thanks for the advice, much help indeed!

@guy84: No problem - you shouldn't be disappointed with the Sharp.

            • @cyssero: Oops I don't think I replied to your thread, but now I am.. can you check out my questions below? Thanks!

    • Hey Cys, if you don't mind me asking, is it really that difficult to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p at 37"? I'm seriously looking into getting my first big tv, between 32, 77 and 42 inches. I walked into HN a few days back and I thought I could tell the difference between 720p and 1080p, but it could just have been maybe HD tuners that made the PQ different.. I think I did see that 37LG30D, LG right? And it's full hd and 100hz too? You reckon that's a good buy? And really you can't tell the diff between 720p and 1080p? My flatmate has a ps3 so I was hoping to take advantage of the whole 1080p thing… any thoughts?

  • I thought I'll come back home to ask the financial controller first. Then open up the browser and it's gone…

    • Thomas The Tank Engine theme song just popped up in my head.. do do do do

  • I read somewhere before regarding the 37 vs 40inch or above. If you want to watch 1080p, you need to watch above 40inch (useless for below 40inch).
In herald sun tech wed 4 March 100hz vs 200hz are not really help, pict quality is better in off mode. I hope that it help. I am sure if you google you will find something.

Edit: if you are in melbourne. You can call rio sound and vision. They are selling it for $1295 37inch as well (i assume same model-you better call first).
