What is there to do in Hobart

I'll be doing my own research but I'm curious to see what things other people could suggest.

I'll be in Hobart for 5 days 4 nights, in Mid September. I'll be staying near Battery Point.

My main reason for going is to see MONA, intend to spend an entire day there.

I'll also be visiting the Saturday Salamanca Markets

I'm putting off hiking for a future date, where I can allocate more time to make it a proper event.

  • Take the package of the shuttle bus to the top of Mt Wellington and the bike ride down. Its a great ride and fairly easy . Second part of the ride down was on forest trails. Well worth doing.

    • Looking at it now.

Would be a nice 1.30-2hr walk

  • Salamanca Markets will take up a whole 45 minutes on the Saturday - IF you walk slowly

    • arriving on the Saturday, so will dawdle in the area.

      • Don't arrive too late. We did once due to flight delays and by mid-arvo it was winding down.

        • Should be there by noon-1pm,

  • I would have thought Tripadvisor would be a better place for advice than OzBargain?

Yeah then carsales for car advise, hotels.com for hotel advise and giftideas.com for gift ideas, vicroads for licensing and suspension advise…is this what you are telling ?

Tripadvisor is useful, but is often not price sensitive. People are on vacation and will sometimes spend silly money on things.

    • maybe,

But I'm already here, and I kinda know this community.

You can see MONA here - no need to go to Hobart-

Port Arthur is about 90 minutes drive if you're hiring a car and worth seeing.

Actually the tasmanian forum part of tripadvisor is quite active and there is a lot of info on there.

For instance someone on their would no doubt tell you to. Go to MONA by ferry - the nicest way to travel

  • Throw your partner into the water and see what you get back

  • You don't get free samples at the chocky factory.

    • Haven't been there yet myself but from the website I linked:

      Visitors can sample chocolates

  • There is no tour for Cadbury anymore it's a shop now and they play you a video.

I believe you can buy chocolates, but it might not suit you.

    • Thanks. Saved me from wasting my time. Can't believe they charge an entrance fee to watch their dvd and buy stuff from the shop!

  • If you are a drinker, and hiring a car it might be worth thinking about a wine trail. Maybe check that the wineries are going to be open when you are there. More info here http://winetasmania.com.au/resources/downloads/120727_Wine_R…

Moorilla Estate is on the same grounds as MONA, and could be worth a look. They do beer too. http://www.moorilla.com.au/tours/

Some people enjoy a trip to Richmond; a historic village around 30 minutes away from Hobart. More here: http://www.richmondvillage.com.au/

Or a afternoon drive down to the Huon might be nice. http://www.huontrail.org.au/

Hope you have a great trip :-)
