Hi guys, currently researching plans and at the moment, Lycamobile and Lebara charge 8c/m to landlines and 15c/m to mobiles + 29c flagfall to the Philippines. Wondering if anyone else know cheaper plans/offers? Local/national calls isn't a concern so doesn't matter if the inclusions are rather minimal. Budget is around $30 a month

How would this work if I went on holiday to Europe and called family in Aust?
I do my international calling slightly differently… I have an unlimited mobile plan (was Kogan, now having to move to Boost…) and use the 'Rebtel' app for my international calls and SMSes. The app sees you calling an overseas number, intercepts it and routes to a local call (which is included in my plan, but may just be a 'cheaper' call for you), they then connect to the target number over the internet and charge you separately for this part of the call but the rates are very reasonable (see www.rebtel.com).
… As an added bonus if the person you call hangs up on you (therefore ending the call you're paying Rebtel for) whilst you stay on the line and they then call their local Rebtel number you get reconnected but the international bit of the call is now completely free. Both parties are simply paying for local rate landline calls but there's no international fee from Rebtel.
I use this latter method in conjunction with friends and family overseas who have unlimited calls to local landlines and I haven't paid for an overseas call for months and months. Even my elderly Mum knows when I call her she is to just hang up and call me back for it to be free for us both.
Also if your phone plan doesn't have free/cheap minutes to the local Rebtel access number the app can also route your part of the call over wifi or your data connection too. It's great.
In summary my advice to you is that if the people you're calling can call landlines cheaply or free of charge then get yourself a mobile plan with free or cheap local landline calls here in Oz and take advantage of this Rebtel callback feature.
