  Always go through an FX provider, I use HIFX, but you could also use ozforex. There are a few reputable companies around that are registered with ASIC. If you're transferring small $, I wouldn't bother with FX traders, but for numbers $5k and higher definitely worthwhile.

  FX providers charges are about $0.004 per $, whereas your standard banks charge $0.02->$0.04 per $, ie the banks are about 5-10x more expensive.

  depend how you want your cash

  if your going on holiday and need it in notes get is cash t any airport

  if your buy some thing , just transfer it from you bank and your bank will charge you a fee

  if you need to transfer it to some one bank account , send it to them via paypal or Weston union

  I ended up using KVB Kun Lun in Melbourne transferring AUD notes for USD notes. Forex rate was .925 and they gave me .91 which I thought was competitive.
