700c Road Bike Wheelset

I am very interested in this particular wheelset. I know it is heavy than other wheels at this price tag. But I like the look and seem like you don't have to worry about adjust the "string" since it is one piece. But since there isn't much this kind of wheelset on the market, there must be a reason. What's bad about this kind of wheelset?

  • these are very weak even at the weight they are (about double a cheap road wheelset)
you would be much much much better off with ebay item 360690420063 for less money as well

  • I've been looking at some new wheels for my mountain bike. Bike-discount.de is by far the cheapest for quality wheel sets. Chain reaction, wiggle & action sports.de would be worth a look aswell

  • so these kind of wheels are very easy to break?

  • See the performance wheels I've tabulated at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/113784 . If you weigh a bit then consider the ones with higher spoke count. There's cheapie $40 DA16's if don't mind a heavyweight set.

  • oooo…no, just dont! My wheelset with tyres fitted weighs less that the front wheel of this! If you don't do much riding it's probably OK…but extra weight is not a good thing on wheels (google: rotational mass). The other thing with massive blades with a large side profile is crosswind…get a sudden side breeze as you do it is quite likely your bike will be blown out from under you. I've run spokes with a 3mm side profile and you can really feel it. If you are after bargain wheels…go Mavic Aksiums…if you can pay a little more or weigh > 90kg go Mavic Ksyrium (I was originally 100kg+ when I started riding on the Ksyriums and they are bomb-proof! Currently I'm running Shimano Dura-Ace 9000 C24's and paid about $800 for the set…but that was a bit extravagant.

  • Weight: Front Wheel:1.76kg=3.90lbs , Rearl Wheel:1.94kg=4.25lbs , 1 Set of Skewers: 0.12kg=0.25lbs

  • After the picture finally loaded you can get either a lot cheaper (check Reid cycles) or a lot lighter for the same money. Go with a normal spoked wheel, the ones in the second post will be much better.

A very basic spoked front wheel should weigh less than 1kg, a rear around 1.2kg. An average range set should weigh about the same as ONE of the cast wheels (1800g).
