Anyone know how to DLSR? Nokin or Conan?

So, I was in the newsagent today and saw….

For those who can't be bothered clicking, basically on the front cover of the "Home Technology" magazine (also available online at http://hometechmag.realviewtechnologies.com/#folio=1), it notes that there is an article inside "Get into DLSR: The quality camera you've always wanted".

I wonder if they resolve that question - should you get a Nokin or a Conan?

  • you mean canon?

      "Anyone knows how to spell?"

      • +1

They are the new copycat versions of the two famous C and N brand DSLR gears. :)

Nokin D800F - No 'High' Pass Filter, 72 Mega Pixels.
Conan EOS 5E Mark IV - 121 MF points, 82 Triple cross type sensor.
Both have 200% view finder coverage of course.

        Nokin 8-300 f/0.8 AF-SS Lens
Conan 8-300 f/0.8 LL Lens (2 red rings)

All DLSR (Digital Lens Single Reflex - new technology) bodies and lenses are dish washer safe.

    Conan has bigger muscles.

  • +1

I wouldn't say either one is better .. more of a preference thing… some people swear by nikon, others swear by canon..

  • +1

    Um… ok

Seems like an incredibly roundabout question. Do you want to know which is better, or which they're trying to tell you is better? In the case of the former, it depends - neither Nikon nor Canon is inherently better. In the case of the latter… who cares?

    • +3

I think the whole point of the post was the marketing speak, *"…The quality camera you've always wanted" Not sure why he had to take a picture or call the brands Nikon/Canon.

Edit: I think he was just trying to be funny because of a typo.

      • +8

Ugh, I scoured the pictures twice looking for a typo, how the hell did I miss that :/

        • +1

Same lol, I only noticed it because expertreader pointed it out.

    • ooooh, thanks for that gif. made my day :)

  • +1

I am going off topic but DLSR or DSLR… which one is the correct way ??

    • digital single lens reflex
      so DSLR would be correct.

    • it's DSLR

      • +2

So you guys think the magazine got it wrong?? (see the link that OP posted)…

        • +2

If there is a Conan or Nokin, why not DLSR?

    • +1
  • +1

Lol, what are the chances of spelling both brand names incorrectly

  • +3

    DSLOLOLSR

  • -1

It's not the camera brand who make good photos, it's YOU !
The best camera is the one you have.

  • +5

should you get a Nokin or a Conan?

What is best in life? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women

    • Conan it is, then. ;-)

    • +1

It's definitely not the open stride, falcons at your breast and wind in your hair…

  • Get both, problem solved.

  • I wonder if they resolve that question - should you get a Nokin or a Conan?

Sounds more like a philosophical question… you may well have to buy the magazine to fulfill your wonderment.

  • +2

I can confirm, I am nokin

  • +4

    do u even camera sldr?

  • -1

they're both hot. lenzez is the kicker. get hots lenzez. some are semi-hot..others are mega hot.nokin and conan both have their share of hot lenzez. there's some other even hotter lenzez that mount (yeah mount!) both nokin's and conan's. by mounting da cameras they make your shots fertile.

  • -1

nokin kept there old mounting system from slr to dslr so they madez peeps happy. conan went all flipp mode which peeved peeps off cause lenzez are where its at.

  • +1

All you nokin and conan boifans r forgetting about pantex (which sounds oddly like a female hygiene product to me)

    • +1

the male version of pantex was manolti… bought buy Syno….. who make nose cleaning products.

      • +2

Syno….. who make nose cleaning products

        Why aren't they called Nosy?

    • Pantex? sounds very tight.

  • Kanoca Manolti?

  • oleempuss even make decent dslr i've heard

    • sox appeal?

    • get it right it is olymparse!

They mostly make Mirrorless cameras for which there seem to be many different acronyms (but not DSLR )

  • Brand names and DSLR spelt wrong. Ah well least you tried.

P.S. I've got a Canon 60D - brilliant camera and cheap now it's been superseded.

    • +4

      Wooooosh.

(btw that was something flying over your head)

      • what's btw mean?

        • -1

          Means you're a bit slow.

        • +1

          not sure if serious….

          If so: http://bit.ly/14qPodl

  • Is the OP for real? How can you possibly misspell the 3 main words of an 8 word sentence? Not to mention that the question doesn't even make sense. And then to misspell the brands again in the section under the heading. Sounds like he is trolling to me. Either way, it's not worth a serious answer.

    • -1

A grammar police just got trapped…

      • +2

That makes no sense either. Police is a plural word so you should either be calling me 'the' grammar police or A grammar 'policeman'.

        • Ah, sorry about that. I corrected below:

A grammar policeman just got trapped.

  • They are both good brands and none is better than the other. I would suggest you go to a camera store and test out which one gives u a better feel in your hands. It all comes down to what photo you want to take and what you want to achieve. All cameras does the same thing and take pictures, but it's the person taking them that makes it a great photo or not.

  • +1

Mate, I seriously thought it was a joke, Nokin or Conan!

    • +7

Thank you, and yes it was intended as a joke if not exactly a roll about on the ground, struggling for breath, in tears sort of joke. Sadly I appear to have overestimated my audience and the point was lost on some…. for that I don't blame them but myself - the error was obvious to me as I have been involved in photography for decades, but for others the typo on the magazine cover was not so jarring. It's a little like the selective attention test (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJG698U2Mvo) - some people can spot it, some can't.

So. Basically on the front page of a magazine supposed to provide advice to people about technology, they had gone all dyslexic on the acronym "DSLR" (which stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex) and made it "DLSR". Maybe not as bad as a car magazine calling a Cadillac the Rolls Royce of cars, but still not good.

I then made a further mistake of doing something similar intentionally with the the brand names of two of the most well known DSLR makers out there - Canon and Nikon - that frequently come up in topics of 'what is the best camera I should get' questions that usually cannot be answered in the same way you could not answer the question 'which colour should I prefer - red or blue?'.

In brief. Not trolling. Not serious. Joke. I apologise if any of this confused, scared, or annoyed anyone. Time to move on with our lives… ;-)

      • +2

lol i am surprised how many people missed that.

      • Its subtlety made it a "roll about on the ground, struggling for breath, in tears sort of joke"
        Job well done :)

        • I sure did, should have clicked his username first ;)

Thought Plasticspaceman was far to well though-out of a name to be asking mediocre questions.

          Wel plaid ser, well played

At fisrt I wnodered how tehy cuold miss taht, but after looknig at smoe of these comemnts it appaers a nubmer of poeple here did'nt pcik up on it initially either.

Anyway, for me I guess the differences between a Canon and a Nikon are:
-the zoom rotate direction. Canon spins one way to zoom in, but a Nikon will zoom out if you spun it that way.
Not sure if the focus ring also differs in direction.
-Nikon power switches usually surround the shutter release. Canon have theirs on the back of the body.
-Canon sensors tend to produce a warmer image. Google it if that doesn't make sense to you.
-Last time I looked into it (years ago), it's easier to get a rubbish zoom lens in the cheaper range on Canon than it is on Nikon. At the higher end though, there seemed to be more options for very very good lenses with Canon (at least in the full frame ranges).
-AFAIK, you can't mount a crop lens on a full frame Canon body. Some Nikons can and just produce a cropped image.

I use Canon. It was the zoom direction that got me.

My advice would be to go try each system out at a camera store with friendly, attentive staff. (Not some place that hires jerks who don't want to give you the time of day because you're looking at the cheapest film bodies. Yeah, I'm looking at you Michael's on Elizabeth Street. Too bad your attendant thought he was above his job because after buying that $180 3000n at your competitor down the road I dropped over 2 large on glass. /rant)

  • If you already have lenses or your family have Canon or Nikon lenses, generally you will continue to stay with that brand. The lenses generally retain values much better than the DSLR bodies. Each 1 to 1.5 years, a new generation of bodies come out. Canon and Nikon are generally neck and neck.

If you don't have any SLR lens, then just try out the bodies and lenses and pick the one you like. Some of the points my DSLR friends told me (for people getting into DSLR):

    • The lens is actually more important than the lens.
    • Avoid kit lens (unless the cost of the kit is cheaper than without the lens or that kit lens is basically $30 or less).
    • Avoid twin lens kit.

You generally cannot go wrong with either one.

Still cannot decide? Then take the official OZB answer: Whichever one has the best deal.

  • -1

Avoid entry level DSLR's from both brands. You're better off finding an older but higher level model. Like if you see this timeline

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Nikon_DSLR_cameras

The D90 or D7000 will typically still be better than D3200. Look around, even on gumtree where a lot of photography enthusiasts sell their older models after they get an upgrade, often with lens. I'd recommend Nikon only because old Nikon lens from old film SLRs will still work with current DSLRs giving you more options and the ability to find cheap old lens. Canon however changed their lens mount when they went to auto focus so old manual focus lens wont fit newer models.

    • I used to have a d90 good camera.(Flash broke) And now I've bought the d3200. And I am quite happy with it. Image Quality is good and nice and light. I liked Nikon because of the D90 shutter speed and aperture dials compared to canon wheel. I am happy with Nikon quality lenses at good price. 85mm f 1.8 and 35mm 1.8.

    • Entry level DSLRs are fine for beginners. If you use D7000, D7100, 7D, 60D, 70D, then you'd better know how to use Manual mode.

All those talks about Canon lens mount restrictions have been generally blown out of proportion. Yes, you cannot use old Cannot FD mount lenses (but do you really want to use them nowadays)? True, you cannot use crop sensor lenses on Canon full frame bodies (again, do you really want to use that combination?).

There is one limitation on entry level Nikon DSLRs. They don't have in built focus motor. So, the low cost full frame 50mm f/1.8D Nikon lens is not suitable for them. Then, again, no big deal, get the G version if you have to.

The key is the skill. My mate can easily take betters photo using a Canon 600D than I can with a 7D or a Nikon D7000 or a D7100. Also, the lens is often more important than the body.

You can get good deals for a new Nikon D7000 nowadays as D7000 is no longer the current gen Nikon DSLRs.
