Aldi Specials - Get in the night before?

Hi,

I was wondering if might know if Aldi puts its special buys on sale the afternoon/night before? i.e. Can you maybe pop down Friday night and get whatever is in its Saturday Special buys?

Thanks,

Mulls

  • Often. I think I saw them wheeling out the Wed specials this arvo. But they were foodstuffs. Less chance with the larger items perhaps.

  • Yes they do that. We were buying a large item first thing in the morning when it opened and the staff admitted that they already have pre-sold their stock. Thankfully they referred us to a store that still has it.

aldi really gives me the sh*ts that you can't check store stock or even ring stores

They rather have their staff doing things in the shop.

What, they already pre-sold both of them??

  • I'll give it a go and report back. Thanks

  • for some of the things you can, at least i have done so before. but for things like phones and other electronics you can't.

  • I've tried in the past and not been successful. I suppose it would just depend on the store and the item.

No luck the only staff around was a young bloke …. nice enough said he couldn't do it and I believed him.

He said something about getting in a half-hour before opening time to get the specials.

Making a special trip, maybe missing out and lining up could be more effort than its worth for most items

    • I've done that and there was no stock left. Sometimes they put things out in the previous afternoon but not always. I haven't looked at the night before though.

Another time I saw a staffer go out back to fetch a mattress for a customer which was special buy for the next week.

Asked at my store last month and the manager told me they are no longer allowed to set up the specials the night before. They did used to do it, and I have been lucky enough to get the stock the evening before. But they told me they have stopped doing it.

Dodgy things go on in Aldi queues. Like the woman who brought her 80 year old mother to huddle into 2nd position in front of me, reuniting with daughter at checkout 2 mins later.

    • An OzBargainer for sure. Productive use of relatives. ;)

  • Made the mistake of going to aldi for milk first thing one Saturday. Wont be doing that again!, it was bedlam. Still, there is a reason Aldi have cheap stuff, it's to get people into the shop. They are not in the service industry, they are in the supply industry. Simpler for them and one of the reasons their prices are lower than the competition.

    • Saturday is never a good time to go to the shops. Too many people with the same idea.

What I don't get is people buying an entire trolley full of groceries.

This is one trick I used to do in the Aldi queues. We used to get there early enough to be first in line. I would stand first and give the trolley to the missus. When the doors opened I bolted for the goods while she fumbled the trolley in the entrance and delayed everyone else. The good old days. Haven't done that for a while.

  • Last week there was some ahole getting really aggressive and abusive with staff because he wanted them to sell him one of the Saturday specials the day before, and ended up talking to the manager (in the middle of the shope for everyone to hear), who very politely said that they were not under any circumstances allowed to sell items before the day (directive from Head Office), even though they were in the back ready to be put out. The guy was not happy..
