Purchasing an iPhone

Ok so i want to spend around $600 and purchase a NEW iPhone but i have a few questions first.

  1. I need the phone by lattest mid October. So which iPhone should i buy.
  2. Where should i buy it from (kogan, apple, gumtree/ebay)
  3. If 5s comes out by then, roughly how much would the 5 be. Still worth buying 5?

Whats my best option? Please give reason for your pick.

Really appreciate it.

Kogan is a very good place to buy it from, me personally speaking as Apple offer an International warranty cover, so if anything does wrong with the actual handset, you can basically take it to an Australian Apple store (and the warranty is registered and activated through the serial number of the phone as well)!

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE AND iPAD SERVICE.
Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone and iPad to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

    • It's personal preference. $600 budget may get you an iPhone 5 looking elsewhere (eBay, Gumtree)

    • Kogan is OK. Pro's and Con's of every store is different. Just note if you buy it from Apple your paying an extra 5% - 10% premium. If you are a uni student, teacher or anything else educational. You can receive a discount. If you are heading over seas within 60 days from purchase, you may claim the GST back also. If you have an ING Direct with the 5% cashback and purchase in-store; ask them to seperate the payment installments to $99.90 per payment, and pay multiple times to get the 5% cash back per transaction (about $5 each time you do this, total $30 saving) on a $600 purchase.

    • 3) 5S Approx $800+

Please read these basic rules of purchasing on Gumtree

  • Would it be worth buying a used iphone or should I just spend a couple hundred dollars more for a new one?

Sorry to hijack your thread but I'm also planning to buy an iphone :)

    • I think, at this point in time, that both would be appropriate approaches.

A used iPhone that still works well and won't cost much to fix any damage isn't a bad way to go. If you want to jailbreak your iPhone, you're better off getting a used one for now.

If you are someone who always wants to be with the latest tech, you should wait.

I once bought a used iPhone 4 for $300 in perfect condition and then waited for the price of the iPhone 5 to drop and got one of those for $800. Sold the iPhone 4 for the $300 it cost me.

Basically it'll come down to whether or not you are in a hurry to get an iPhone (and if you want to jailbreak your device).

Iphone do not have international warranty!!!

  • There;s a pretty solid chance of the iPhone 5s/6 coming out next month. A lot of pressure at the moment coming from Samsung's new releases so there's a pretty solid bet that they will release it then if you can wait. You will pay the premium price though.
