    you forgot to buy shampoo

The conditioner at home always runs out before the shampoo does. We roughly run on a 1:2 ratio of shampoo and conditioner :P

Wonder how much the farmer's earning…

    • +1

Well I'm amazed at the amount of people buying $1 litre milk. Youd have to ask yourself, does anyone ever actually care??

      • +1

Sometimes one has to feel sympathy for the person who's making the consumable. Coles should really stop screwing the farmers and possibly take less of a profit.

        • +3

I dont think its Coles fault at all. They are free to price it at whatever they like, its a free country. Its solely the fault of the australian people, we are a population of really tight cheapskates. Even though we're living in the "lucky country", I've not been in a single country where people care so much for a few dollars and this is including many third world, developing countries.

It's actually kind of a myth about the whole milk prices going to farmers thing.

Here's a very clear explanation of it on ABC's The Checkout, Season 1 Episode 4. Worth a watch.

          http://youtu.be/Ty3WYTL978A?t=45s

It basically says that the 2 companies that control 90% of the drinking milk market in Australia and produce milk for more or less all of the major brands you see on the supermarket shelves said in a 2011 senate enquiry that they pay farmers the same amount, regardless of what brand is on the packaging. So it doesn't actually matter if you buy coles/woolies milk or the twice as expensive 'name brands'.

With regards to the 10 cent corn, it's probably a reduced to clear item that may be going out of date soon, or they have way too much of it. Coles is renowned for just using any old special ticket (that looks like any regular special) for reduced/short dated items.

        • "lucky country"? We're up there with one of the most expensive places in the world to live. Sure our milk is dirt cheap, but not much else is. I can understand why people want to penny pinch.

But I do agree 100% that our farmers are getting done over in a nasty way. I'm not a penny saver myself (I know - what the hell am I doing here :) so I never go for the 'cheaper' option with food - I like the 'good' stuff :)

It hasn't been the "lucky country" for sometime now (with respect to living costs) - we have other things to be thankful for though.

Don't get your panties in a knot. The farmer has already got their money for this, the store decided to sell tham at this price to get rid of stock.

Since everyone else is commenting on other elements of the receipt, here's my contribution - I don't think Shayden ought to be a name.

    • ssshhhh, her brother Braden will kick your arse for saying that.

      • I thought Shayden was a guy's name :S

    • As a health indicator: if it looks different the next day, go see a doctor (bulk-billed of course) :)

Make this. It's by far the best way to use corn ever. The photos on this site don't do it justice. http://realfoodroad.com/2012/08/31/corn-chowder-americas-tes…
