Deals Direct - some unreliable but interesting statistics

Given the outcry in the recent rich vs poor thread, I'll start by caveating this and saying that these statistics amount to nothing more than my personal experience in the recent DD sales.

Over the 2 weeks of the sales, I purchased 51 items. Of those items:

Wrong item received: 1 (returned at their expense but a hassle for me for a refund as no longer in stock)

Items supposedly posted (but not received, and they say not trackable), still waiting for refund: 2

TOTAL not received/incorrect item: 3 items


Refunded automatically by DD's system (refunded the correct amount) due to no stock: 1

Refunded automatically by DD's system (incorrect amount refunded initially) due to no stock: 1

Refunded only after I chased up after 2-3 weeks of hearing nothing (correct amount first try): 4

Refunded only after I chased up after 2-3 weeks of hearing nothing (incorrect amount first try): 2

TOTAL refunded due to no stock/backorder: 8 items


Arrived broken/smashed: 3 (clearly due to inadequate packaging. of these, I had to return (at their expense, but a hassle for me) 1 to get a refund. I didn't bother chasing 1 up, and the final 1 they refunded without making me send back)

Arrived with items intact but packaging of items (actual item box damaged, not just outer postage packaging) badly damaged: 5

TOTAL damaged items: 8 items


Items not even worth the cheap price I paid/not as described (to the op shop they go): 5

In summary, I had no issues with 27/51 items (a 53% success rate). I had issues with 24 items (47% failure rate). Their refund process is a hassle and time consuming. You also get no compensation for their (multiple) mistakes. Especially dissapointing is that some 'out of stock' items were showing as 'in stock' for a full day or more after I ordered them. I am very happy with the prices I paid for the 27 items that were received as expected, but overall DD's service was dismal and I would avoid dealing with them again unless the price was amazing and I was willing to take a gamble on whether they'd actually deliver.

      • Perhaps they meant the poll could include:

        100% received with problems
        81-99% received with problems
        61-80% received with problems

        etc etc ?

        Edit: my own experience was 100% success rate with no problems, but some packaging was damaged in transit, though I didn't see any damage to the goods inside (wooden products).

    Your poll is worded a bit strangely but it seems:

    77% of people have had no problems with their orders.
    12% have a small amount of problems

    It's an interesting conclusion that would probably apply to CatchoftheDay, CPL, or group buy deals. Most don't have issues but the small minority who do are the most vocal.

    Kinda funny. I sent them an email asking if they felt like delivering it any time soon, but not to rush, feel free to sit on it for a couple more weeks… I wonder if they picked up on the sarcasm.. I'll probably get it in a couple of months. -.-
