    Made in China.

Their peas are really dry inside. :(

I agree I wouldn't trust any "fresh" or frozen food coming from China http://www.theage.com.au/news/epicure/fresher-and-smellier/2…
With all those billions of mouths to feed, I can only just imagine the quality they freeze.

In other news: labour is cheaper in China than Australia.
The article is all about spreading unsubstantiated fear about Chinese grown garlic.

        • +2

Hear hear. You can't neg. it because its not as good as fresh when it was clear up front.

    • It's sickening we're importing frozen vegetables into Australia.

Please don't -ve the deal just because of its country of origin.
I made full disclosure because I think this should be a conscious decision.
Not a great deal normally but at under half price, it means broccoli may be on the menu for some who may not normally get it.

Just trying to be helpful… even some readers of OzBargain may appreciate this (if it's widespread) as a way to stretch the grocery budget or stock up).

It would be better for all of us to Buy Australian for all of our food… if we do this, we might get less generic brand imports. I don't like the idea of imports, but I figure it's best to share a bargain on OzBargain.

I drew the line on the peas.
Have tried them before (IIRC they are Aussie made, which is nice).
Better than Woolies' offering of NZ peas. Perfect for the Sistema NZ-made food containers!

I didn't notice any Decor half price products, not $2.50 Underbelly books at Hornsby, where it's better to have no expectations and occasionally pick up a bargain.

The freezer at home is groaning witn the addition of many kg of veges and rice from this clearance. My April frozen vege shopping is half done!

Not a bargain when your sacrificing the livlihood of Aussie farmers, not to mention potentially your own health.

      • +3

what then aren't we sacrificing the livelihoods of Aussies working in the flight industry, by flying Emirates for example? Where do we draw the line?

  • +3

Good on you Bizi for sharing this bargain.
After all, the sharing bit is what OzBargain is all about!

Don't shoot the messenger people. Thanks for the posting.

Guess most of you haven't checked the country of origin on "popular" brands of frozen veggies.

In Woolies the other day, I could not find one bag of frozen Broccoli that was grown locally. McCain, BirdsEye, Woolworth's Select were all from China. Coles Smart Buy is also from China.

The only one I could find (and buy) is the one labelled Coles Australian Broccoli. It's about the same price as Woolies Select too.

"Already Australian farmers cannot compete against a country which has a wages advantage of 35 to 1, weak environmental laws and a free-for-all approach to the use of agricultural chemicals.

"How will this be improved by getting rid of the 4% Australian import tariff under a free trade agreement? It will just make things worse"

"Australian consumers will be horrified to know that locally packaged frozen vegetables they buy contain almost 100% Chinese content.

"On a recent trip to Tasmania's North West, it was confirmed to me that local growers were largely ignored by the Simplot processing plant in Devonport because the company sources the vast majority of its frozen vegetables from China. Of the eight or nine veges in a Simplot mixed package, only the cauliflower stalks were locally grown and farmers were feeding the florets to livestock in paddocks less than 10 kilometres from the processing plant.

"Unfortunately, consumers are kept in the dark too because labelling standards are so deficient. The words "Product of Australia" on a pack of frozen veges only indicates it is processed here, that the packaging is made here and it contains perhaps one locally grown vegetable.

we are voting on the deal here, not how good/crap the product is.

    • -1

How can you not take into account the actual product when voting on a deal?

  • +2

The site is here to reveal bargains, not to slander products because they originate from countries. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you feel it's not a bargain then neg it, but don't neg it because the product is not Australian.

Use the vote system for genuine voting.

The same argument (its cheaper in China, thus putting aussies out of a job) could be argued for a large percentage of the deals on ozbargain. What a crazy argument.
