  • Does anyone in the know have any thoughts on this particular brand of protein? I'd be keen to hear if anyone has any doubts about it.

    • MAX's is a fairly decent brand. I would say it's the best 'Australian' brand that we have.

The super size is more bulk powder than protein powder.

      A meager 28g of protein per 100g.

The protein concentrate I use is 81.5g per 100g.

If weight gain is your thing, carbohydrates are easy to get. Eat a slice of bread or a chocolate bar.

      • PP what brand do you buy/where from if you don't mind sharing?

Since I'm no longer buying Bullshit Supplements WPI, those that buy Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard, is $144.15 delivered for 10lb a good price or is there somewhere better to purchase it!? I think I'm going to stick to name brands after being duped by No Bull Supplements. I'm certainly open to other brands if there is something better out there for a similar price!?

    • What do you mean duped? Interested to know (can you PM me if you don't want to be public about it?)

In terms of name brands, ON is very popular, but not deservingly so IMO.
Check out brands like Cellucor Whey, Giant Sports, Trutein, Beverly International. That all said though, ON does make a great Casein, and they are a great brand, but not greater than any others.

    • Yeah, how did you get duped? I use No Bull. I would like to know what happened

        There you go.
ON @$144 for 10lb is pretty much as cheap as you can get it (after factoring GST)
Unless you use dodgey methods with Vitacost you can skip the GST.

        • cwongtech has linked to the "issues" regarding their WPI in response to above questions.

        • Thanks, going back to ON until I get some test kits for this

    • NoBull have always been awesome to me.

    • name and shame brother, we're a community here

    • Wow, we've all been screwed!

Don't pay for anything with a flashy label on it when it comes to protein. It's a rip off. I figured that out years ago after spending wayyyy too much at GNC and not knowing you could score a really good deal off the net. If you can be bothered getting the best deal (Which I'm sure a lot of you are because you're ozbargainers…), get 5 friends to commit to 10 KG each, send an email out to a few different bulk protein providers and you're gonna score yourself a good deal per kilo. I even use to put a profit margin on it so that my friends were paying for the majority of my powder!

    • Oh, and I'm talking about high quality WPI with top the best AA profiles, not WPC. You could get that dirt cheap in bulk.

Too bad the bulk proteins taste like ass and don't mix properly.

      • lol @ whoever negged my good advice. Mine always mixed perfectly and tasted great. Maybe you should ask for a sample before you buy in bulk if you're worried… or you could just stick to drinking your sugar drink that you're mistaking for a protein shake and continue to get ripped off.

I even use to put a profit margin on it so that my friends were paying for the majority of my powder!

          That's not what I call a true friend :(
Unless they were getting a SIGNIFICANTLY better deal with your order + you were taking a very very small cut out of each order :p
Lol at you spending money at GNC, but you learnt your lesson :D
Can you share how much protein you got per 100g, and what rate you got per kilo, out of curiousity?

        • Heyyyy, I'm a business man! ;)

Sorry, mate. Last time I did it, it was a few years ago so I can't remember exact figures, otherwise I would've given a bit more detail and also given the source as it really was a great deal on a great product. From memory though, it was somewhere in the 80's per 100g and l-luecine was at like 10.6 or something. Not sure about the rest of the AA profile, but it stood its ground against everything else.

Pretty sure I got it for around $200 to $220 per 10kg lot and sold it at $230 - $250, so really, it was still a pretty good deal for my lazy bastard mates.

It was chocolate WPI too, btw.

          Delicious chocolate WPI.

        • Heyyyy, I'm a business man! ;)

Fair enough, the organising of the bulk order and risk you take on with someone backing out is huge, so I guess your cut is justified :)

That rate is really cheap :O
At the moment I'm getting ON GS (also works out to be 80g ptein per 100g) at $23.33USD/2lb
          Or $25.7USD/1kg
          Or $28.63AUD/1kg

I don't have to buy in bulk and I get a massive selection of flavours though :P

        • Where do you get it for this price?

        • Which one are you referring to, ON or Neckbeards'?

  • +2

Would it not be easier and cheaper to eat steak or chicken to get your protein?

    • +1

If you have the time to cook and eat - defs do that, but sometimes busy people (cough lazy cough) have no time to do it so they drink a shake instead.

    • +1

Cheaper? Maybe. Easier? Nope. It takes a lot longer to prepare meat than it does a protein shake.

Having said that, I would prefer to have proper food over a shake.

  • How does this compare to:
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/111961

I'm hoping to start out, and am confused on which to buy.. Someone help me out please? :)

(PS. I'm a skinny underweight 20 year old male, hoping to gain weight or 'bulk up' a bit so I can at least shop for clothes properly!)

    • Well if you're looking to "bulk up", you're better off buying this deal because of the huge amount of carbs and 'energy' (see dextrose) in it per serve. Eat more as well. And if you're not gaining weight, eat even more again.

      Or you could do steroids.
