Same company :), just trading under different names.
The 60" series 8 earlier today is a nicer unit, @ $1999 w/free delivery to major cities.
Bang for buck though, the extra 4" are tempting - weighing up whether I'd notice the picture quality for my low-res watching - $650 difference between the two models.
I've allways been wowed majorly by these tv's when on display, not so much the newer one :S.
Edit: On further inspection: I LIED! It's actually the series 7 LED model that I love. my mistake :p
The difference is noticeable between a series 5 & 8.
Those extra 4" inches on a cheaper panel with less image processing will just result in poorer image quality and less sharpness.
$1699 at Harvey Norman Nationwide. No deal.
Catalogue Correction: The Samsung 64" Full HD 3D Capable Smart Plasma TV, advertised at $1699 on page 2 of the Harvey Norman 'Latest and Greatest' broadsheet, has been incorrectly priced at $1699. The correct price for this TV is $1899

So deal?
If your chasing a similar tv but want a better picture, the new 65" Panansonic 65ST60 are unbeatable. They are around $2200 on special. If you don't want to pay the extra, the same model 60" (60ST60) can be picked up for around $1800 from JB/Myer etc.
Have a google and read some reviews and you'll see that most places rank the Panasonic (ST60) picture much better then the Samsung. The whirlpool fourms are full of the ST60 deals if your interested.
Debatable, but considering a lot of Panasonic Plasmas are basically re-badged Pioneer Kuro's since 2010, there could be some truth to that. The Sammy F8500's are no slouches though and they have dropped down to around $2000 now. The long-awaited "Kuro-Killer" or successor is the VT series from Panasonic.
Hopefully for those that buy one, they're not buzzy little bees like the E550s!
