LG OptimusG LTE 32G $379 Delivered from KOGAN (Today Only)

170

I know LG has a reputation on NOT updating their OS but it's $10 cheaper than the 3G Nexus 4 16G and $50 cheaper than a Galaxy S3 LTE 16G.

I reckon it deserves a post on its own.

Free shipping ends midnight.

Seems like a good deal to me.
Only thing to be mindful of is that it's only dual-band in 3G:

    2G Network
    850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900MHz
    3G Network
    900 / 2100MHz
    4G Network
    800 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600

So not so good if you plan to rely on 3G services from Vodafone/Telstra.

  • No reason to get this over the N4 that I can see. Pay the extra $10 or better still pay $20 more and pick it up locally.

      LTE, 32GB

LTE and 16G more storage are crucial to some as there is no expansion slot

      • soab! no muSD slot is a killer for me :(

    • But with N4 you will always have latest android and even things like Ubuntu if you dare.

      • This can be rooted & you can install CM… you'll never be too far behind. This also has a better camera. The N4 isn't close to this, really. I wouldn't buy a phone without 4G these days.

        • good reasoning; you win :) ; i should probably start working now.

        • I have always found CM to be a pain in the ass. Always has some function that is stuffed up be it bluetooth, GPS, power drain etc.

        • CM on the Optimus G is fully featured. Mostly because it's so similar to the N4 that there is little work required to port CM from the N4 to the Optimus G.

    • I hope you are joking. Even LG admits that it is a better phone. The N4 doesn't even have usb on the go.

      • Yeah, I can't see any other reason why LG would prefer you bought their own branded phone, can you? They are already noted to be disillusioned with Google and have stated that they will not be making another Nexus and that their future may not lie with Android at all. As for no USB OTG, I've owned several flagship Androids that did not do this, it's nothing new.

        • Seems like the OEM know they need to have their own OS. Who knows whether Google will try to close android after the 5 years is up, but to control the OS by keeping it on your own hardware seems to be very profitable.

      • Optimus G doesn't either.

  • its an ok deal; new optimus g2 (galaxy s4 rival) is coming out on 7th August.

    • Thanks for the info.
I'm guessing not at even close to this price?

It doesn't look like the price is dropping fast as last year. I still remember S3 was down to $500 a couple months after launch and $400 3 months after launch. In contrast, S4 is still on $599…..meh. Must be the weak AUD at this point.

  • This is a good deal for the E975, as long as you don't plan to use Telstra/Voda 3G (850Mhz) that much.

Previous best was $388 direct from JB Hifi, which was a bit of a JB Hi Fi stuff up admittedly.

That deal was for the E975K (Aus Version), which was designed for Telstra:

    4G 1800/2600MHz (100Mbps downlink rating)
    3G HSDPA 42Mbps 850/2100MHz
    2G 850/900/1800/1900MHz

So have a think about what network you will be using, and where, before jumping on board.

  • hmm.. Basically the Nexus 4 Premium. With CM support I can't see any disadvantages over the Nexus 4. About time Google dropped prices on the Nexus 4 ffs.

Unless you need Telstra's Next G you'd be crazy to get a Nexus 4 over the LG Optimus G at this price.

Will be going OS in a few weeks. Wonder if HN or JB will price match Kogan?

btw, Kogan's shipping estimate of 2-4 weeks is just them covering their ass. That's worst case scenario. Usually people get their order within a week.

  • kogan is using 3G 850Mhz , isnt them?

      3G Network 900 / 2100MHz

    • Yes, they do. So this phone will not pick up their 850Mhz band.

this thing has alot of pros over N4

root and rom this and it will pee all over with capacitive button and camera

  • I'm looking for a cheap Android phone that is compatible with apps like SnapChat. Any suggestions? Preferably < $200, and definitely < $300.

My current Galaxy Mini 2 isn't up to the job.

      Lg Optimus 4x Hd.

Quad core Nvidia Tegra, quad band, 16gb, 720p IPS @ 4.7 inches.
It's like the little brother of this phone that only does 3g.

    • Xperia V if they're still available.
