Anyone has experience renting a car from Adelaide to Melbounre that can share with me? Which car hire company you would recommend and what to look for? For example, pick up and drop off locations (no need to be at airport) and accidental insurance etc. I am looking at at least two days of renting the car with a capacity of 4 adults and 3 pieces (2 large and 1 small) of luggages. Thanks in advance.

Could be worth trying these guys out - http://www.imoova.com/
Campervan relocations - usually they're free, and sometimes have included fuel
Look into a relocation as PP has said :)

Otherwise I'd look at each promo the rental car companies are running on your preferred travel date.
As for Insurance, if you don't have your own (my own car insurance covers up to $4000 of rental car misfortune excess) then just pay the fee they're charging.
Have a safe trip!
The one way hire may be the largest factor in your cost. I looked at Thrifty and they were reasonable, but by the time I looked again, there were no reasonable one way hires left. So I ended up with Europcar. No hassles with them, but someone else wrote that you have to be very careful to note down any existing dings before setting out.
Also it had to be city to city, from and to airport has extra charges. Which is ok, since the bus to the city in Adelaide is good. In Melbourne I wasted time figuring out the entrance to Southern Cross. It turned out to be the normal Spencer Street parking entrance, and you give the ticket to the Europcar clerk to deal with.
PS: Watch your speed on the Limestone Coast. I got pulled over and given a warning for exceeding the limit by 7 km/h.
